In the undergraduate Han Nom training program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, students learn ancient Chinese characters, ancient Chinese and Nom characters through ancient Han Nom cultural documents that still exist. This can be considered the key to open the door to ancient studies in particular and traditional culture in general. In addition, Han Nom students also learn ancient knowledge in many different fields, such as literature, history, philosophy, language, culture, customs, etc., helping them to have a deep and rich knowledge base in the fields of social sciences and humanities.
According to Dr. Le Phuong Duy - Lecturer of Han Nom Department, Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Han Nom major trains in 04 main fields: Chinese Han literature, Vietnamese Han literature and Vietnamese Han literature, Nom script and Nom texts, and Professional theory. With these training fields, students are equipped with important basic knowledge and skills to perform well in their jobs after graduation.
You will be surprised when students majoring in Han Nom are fluent in two foreign languages, Chinese and English. This is a huge advantage that opens up many opportunities for study, research and good jobs for them.
In particular, students majoring in Han Nom are entitled to the second degree training policy of Hanoi National University. Accordingly, after completing the first year, students who meet the academic requirements will be able to register to study for a second university degree at the faculties/institutes of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and member universities of Hanoi National University (University of Law, University of Foreign Languages, University of Education). This helps students save time and study costs, while increasing their future opportunities. With only 5 years of study, students will have two bachelor's degrees from Hanoi National University - the most prestigious university in Vietnam.
In addition to being trained in-depth in Han Nom majors, Han Nom students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU are very interested in new and applied courses, such as Creative Thinking and Idea Design, International Integration and Development, Journalism and Communication, Creative Writing, etc.

Accordingly, each year VNU-USSH has 6.5 billion scholarships from the budget, 1.6 billion non-budget scholarships and 45 scholarships (worth 50 million/student/year) from the VNU Talent Attraction Scholarship Fund for 09 basic science majors.

Visit many cultural and historical sites in practical and internship courses
This is one of the great advantages of Han Nom students when they participate in many trips to localities with cultural and historical relics, from which they approach, collect and research Han Nom texts. The internship course is implemented from the summer of the 3rd year, organized by the Faculty of Literature or by the students themselves. The internship trips to Hue, Bac Ninh, Nam Dinh, Hanoi... have brought students many vivid and new practical experiences.
