Overview of the ConferencePresiding over the conference, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized several key areas for discussion among the delegates: strengthening efforts to attract highly qualified personnel to work at the university; improving the quality of scientific research (publishing comprehensive volumes, increasing the number of international publications), standardizing curriculum development, and developing a plan for publishing materials to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the university's tradition and its 30th anniversary in 2025,...
Principal Hoang Anh Tuan presided over the conference. The conference participants listened to representatives from the Human Resources, Scientific Research Management, and Financial Planning departments share information on the results achieved in March, while also emphasizing the key tasks for April and 2024, closely adhering to the KPIs assigned by VNU.
Associate Professor Dr. Dao Duc Thuan – Head of the Personnel Department – hopes to receive the support of the heads of relevant units in introducing personnel from outside the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in order to attract more highly qualified staff to work at the university.
Head of the Financial Planning Department, Kim Thi Diep Ha, discussed the department's proposal regarding the roadmap for collecting tuition fees for various majors based on economic and technical standards. This was done after careful consideration of the specific characteristics of each major, while also referencing fee levels at other training institutions to ensure feasibility.
Representatives from various departments and training units shared the opinion that, to standardize textbook publishing, units need to proactively propose specific textbook titles, personnel for implementation, and procedures similar to a basic-level scientific research project, submitting them to the Board of Directors for approval. This task must be carried out regularly to ensure the production of high-quality textbooks that equip students with a systematic, in-depth, modern, and up-to-date knowledge base.
Dr. Trinh Van Dinh - Head of the Research Management Department, stated that the Department will develop, submit to the Board of Directors for approval, and soon issue specific guidelines on the compilation of textbooks and lectures.Regarding training, representatives from several units suggested that, in reality, not all students have the opportunity to pursue a double degree. Therefore, the university should have a system for recognizing majors and minors (students only need to complete about 30 additional credits to have their major recognized alongside their registered major, instead of pursuing a double degree). Training units should proactively propose specific lists of majors and minors that align with their strengths and the university's overall resources. Simultaneously, certificates should be awarded to students who have fully participated in soft skills courses within the curriculum, which would be very beneficial for them in their future job search.

Dr. Pham Hoang Giang - Head of the Philosophy Department - gave a specific example of the needs of Philosophy students who want to take additional courses from other majors and have the university certify that they have completed a "minor major": Journalism, Political Science, History, Linguistics, etc.
Vice Principal Dang Thi Thu Huong agreed with the proposals from the various units and affirmed that the school's leadership would soon issue specific guidelines to best meet the practical needs of the students.
In order to enhance and improve the practical training, academic exchange, and overseas learning opportunities for students, and to internationalize training activities; while also attracting a large number of international students and trainees to study at the university, the opinions exchanged at the Conference suggested diversifying organizational forms (short-term, long-term, credit recognition, student exchange, etc.), maximizing support from the university and foreign partners so that students have the opportunity to participate in internships at leading universities in the region at the most reasonable cost.
Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong shared his views at the conference.
Head of Student Affairs and Support Department Dinh Tien Hieu proposed: building on the success of the Job Fair - connecting with employers held at the end of March, it is necessary to strengthen the participation of organizations and businesses in supporting students with internships, practical training, entrepreneurship, innovation, and job searching.
Responding to feedback from training units regarding the enhancement of equipment to support teaching and learning activities and the upgrading of facilities, Vice Rector Lai Quoc Khanh shared that the Administrative and General Affairs Department will receive and process the feedback as soon as possible, in accordance with State regulations and maximizing overall resources.
Vice Rector Lai Quoc Khanh delivered a speech at the conference.
Essentially agreeing with the opinions expressed by the Vice Rectors and the discussions of the representatives from various units, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan concluded by emphasizing several key tasks and implementation solutions:
- Instruct relevant departments (Training Department, Science and Technology Department, training units) to expedite the development and early issuance of guidelines on major, minor, and dual major training programs to create more learning and experiential opportunities for students.
- The heads of training units, especially faculties with rich and diverse documentation systems, are tasked with proactively proposing plans for digitizing documents. The university will provide funding for implementation, ensuring both the principle of resource sharing and facilitating easy access and use for students.
- Assign the Research Management Department as the focal point, coordinating with relevant departments (Finance, Training) to discuss and develop specific guidelines for compiling textbooks and reference materials for all subjects (each textbook should be developed as a scientific research project); simultaneously, propose solutions to maximize investment resources for research: improve the scientific quality of research projects and conferences, and increase the number of international publications in 2024.
- Units should proactively propose and draft publications (without limit on quantity) about scientists and generations of leaders who have made significant contributions to the development of the University, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of its founding and the 30th anniversary of its establishment in 2025.
- The Planning and Finance Department is tasked with continuing to monitor and update information regarding the imposition of tuition fees by Hanoi City on various departments of universities within the city, in order to promptly advise the Board of Directors on appropriate implementation plans.
- The Department of International Cooperation and Development will act as the focal point, coordinating with relevant faculties/departments/offices to expedite activities related to organizing internships and practical training abroad for students (contacting and working with partners, developing procedures and guidelines for relevant units, etc.), while also attracting a large number of foreign students and trainees to study at the University.
- The Administration and General Affairs Department is tasked with continuing to review and propose plans for repairing and supplementing equipment to optimize the school's space and create a friendly and modern image for VNU-USSH.
