11. Summary of project results:
After researching the impact of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy on ASEAN and Vietnam, the students have completed the project’s objectives and tasks. A summary of some results is as follows:
- In chapter 1, the author gave the reason for Canada to issue the Indo-Pacific strategy, in the context of the world, fierce competition between major powers, the emergence of many hot spots with rapid developments, potentially threatening the strength and interests of Canada in the region. On that basis, the strategy sets out 5 goals to protect Canada's interests in the next 5 to 10 years in the region.
- In chapter 2, the author assesses the impacts of Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy on ASEAN and Vietnam. On the positive side, it opens up many opportunities for trade and investment cooperation and supply chain recovery; sustainable development; strengthening defense and security; focusing on cooperation against climate change and investing in people and connecting people. On the negative side, the Strategy has somewhat weakened ASEAN's central role; challenges trade issues due to increased competition and technical barriers; creating a strong and divisive arms race due to the East Sea and Taiwan issues. In addition, this chapter also presents remarkable multi-dimensional responses from countries in and outside the region.
- In chapter 3, the author has provided some bases on the existing strength, interests and viewpoints in cooperation with Canada of each ASEAN country including Vietnam. On that basis, the author has made some proposals and recommendations on four pillars including: Politics, diplomacy; Economy, trade, investment; Defense, security and Culture and society, to promote positive aspects and limit negative aspects in the relationship between the two sides.
12. Practical applicability: The research results help systematize the most basic issues related to Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy. In particular, the project has clearly analyzed the impact of the strategy on ASEAN and Vietnam; proposed proposals and recommendations for cooperation; from there, drawn out a number of issues that need attention for Vietnam. The research will also be a reference for students, graduate students and researchers on Canada. In addition, the research is also a source of reference documents, helping state agencies advise and plan policies and strategies for Vietnam.
13. Further research directions: In the coming time, the author will continue to research issues related to Canada's achievements and shortcomings in implementing policies and strategies in the Indo-Pacific region under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; The connection between Canada and strategic alliances through the Indo-Pacific Strategy in the region. In addition, other research topics can be studied in detail on cooperation in maritime security, science and technology, and climate change response.
