However, the actions and steps present in the English corpora account for a high proportion while the structure of Vietnamese articles tends to lack some important actions and steps, contributing to the success of the scientific article. Specifically, out of 23 actions and 45 steps in the framework for analyzing the structure of the scientific article genre, the English corpora use 21 actions and 30 steps while the Vietnamese corpora use 17 actions and 20 steps.
Explanations from the perspective of education and international publishing experience have been presented in the thesis to provide a thorough understanding of the differences in the discourse structure of English and Vietnamese scientific articles. In general, the level of compliance with the structure of scientific article genres in Vietnamese corpus has not been given due attention; therefore, the thesis provides policy suggestions and practical recommendations for students, lecturers, researchers, higher education institutions and specialized journals in the country. Accordingly, higher education institutions need to integrate the content of the discourse structure of the scientific article genre into the academic writing course to equip students with standard knowledge of article structure. In addition, training in academic writing skills for lecturers with the aim of publishing articles in prestigious domestic and foreign journals needs to be focused on. For higher education institutions, in order to move towards standards in research and scientific articles, creative and critical thinking needs to be nurtured and developed for generations of students. In theory:
- The thesis is one of the few works that synthesize theoretical research on the genre structure of the entire article because previous studies in the country and in the world have only mentioned the genre structure of one or a few components in the main text of the article.
- The thesis also adds scientific arguments for domestic universities and academies in building the structure of presenting scientific articles, scientific research reports, theses and dissertations in economics in the direction of approaching international standards; at the same time, it also provides scientific arguments on the standard genre structure of research articles for domestic specialized journals.
In practice:
- The research results are a valuable reference source for students, graduate students, researchers, and young lecturers in economics and other fields to help them approach the standard structure of a scientific article to have direction in writing and publishing in prestigious domestic and international journals.
- The research results of the thesis are the basis for specialized journals to complete the requirements for the structure of scientific article genres according to international standards to improve the quality of articles, thereby increasing the opportunity to be indexed and ranked in prestigious world databases such as Scopus and Web of Science.
- This is the first study to compare and contrast the genre structure of English and Vietnamese scientific articles in economics on the discourse level in Vietnam, so the practical recommendations drawn from the research results are novel and contribute significantly to discourse knowledge in the Vietnamese context.
12. Further research directions:
The thesis gives some suggestions for further research directions as follows:
- Firstly, the application of the approach of analyzing scientific article discourse genres to other fields such as Linguistics, Literature, Information Technology, Pedagogy, Mathematics, Agriculture, Psychology, Law, etc. needs to be further expanded in the context of higher education institutions across the country promoting international publications in all training fields to affirm their position in training and scientific research domestically and internationally.
