*Research purpose: Systematize the theoretical basis of social assistance services for the elderly; evaluate the current status of social assistance services for the elderly at care facilities in the public and private sectors; analyze factors affecting social assistance services, thereby proposing solutions to improve the quality of social services for the elderly in current elderly care facilities.
* Research object: Social assistance services for the elderly in residential care facilities.

* Some key results
- The thesis has pointed out the characteristics of the needs of the elderly in current care centers. The research results also show the difference in the needs of the elderly in public and private centers. This difference in needs is explained by the living conditions, occupation, and income of the elderly.
- The study analyzed and synthesized the current status of providing social assistance services for the elderly, reflected in the assessment of frequency, effectiveness, difficulties and advantages in the process of providing services. This status is different in each service provided to the elderly at private and public facilities. However, there is a basic similarity that the professionalism of the social assistance staff is still limited in both types of facilities.
- The study identified and analyzed the groups of factors that most strongly influence the provision of social assistance services for the elderly in care facilities such as: (1) Legal and policy factors; (2) Factors from service providers (facilities, service types, staff), (3) Factors from the elderly themselves, and (4) Factors from the elderly's family.
- From the results of the current situation, propose some feasible solutions to improve the effectiveness of providing social assistance services for the elderly at current care facilities.
New contributions of the thesis
Scientific significance
- The research results of the thesis provide a system of conceptual tools for the elderly and social assistance services for the elderly in care centers. Contribute to verifying and developing theories such as the theory of needs, the theory of ecological systems and the theory of social roles. Through the research results, it contributes to raising awareness of the community and society about caring for the elderly. Contribute to supplementing scientific arguments for planning, implementing and improving social policies for the elderly.
Practical significance
- The topic studies the current status of social assistance services for the elderly at elderly care centers in Hanoi, through which the topic wants to clarify the term "social assistance services for the elderly" as well as sketch a picture of the provision and access to social assistance services for the elderly from the perspective of social work (CTXH) in current elderly care centers. Also through this topic, the author hopes that the system of theoretical and practical bases of the research will help training institutions have more materials in teaching and orienting specialized training on social work/social assistance services for the elderly.
Conclude
- The needs of the elderly in public and private care facilities have similarities and differences. Differences in the needs, living conditions, employment and income of the elderly have a significant impact on the need to use social assistance services.
- Social assistance services for the elderly in care facilities vary in the frequency of provision and effectiveness of each service, however, there is no difference in the professionalism of the staff providing the services.
- Some solutions need to be proposed: perfecting mechanisms and policies on the elderly to promote and diversify care models, having mechanisms and policies to encourage the non-public sector to participate in providing elderly care services in the community, creating an equal and healthy environment for the non-public sector when participating in social care services; promoting and creating conditions for staff to study and improve their professional qualifications, especially in-depth training in the field of social work with the elderly, needing to add policies and regulations on preferential treatment for the group of social assistance staff for the elderly is the most chosen solution. Next is the solution from the service provider: improving facilities, equipment, improving procedures and documents, diversifying types and methods of service provision to meet the increasing needs of the elderly in the community, including those with low incomes. Finally, it is necessary to promote communication activities to raise awareness among the elderly, families and communities in caring for and supporting the elderly.
12. Further research directions
Within his/her capacity, the researcher wishes to continue to conduct more in-depth and comprehensive research on the trend of using social assistance services for the elderly in care facilities, focusing on assessing the needs of the elderly in public and private sectors, the ability to meet those needs from the social assistance service system of current elderly care facilities in the context of population aging, and then the researcher wishes to continue to have more in-depth assessments of social work training solutions for the elderly by social assistance staff in care facilities.

New contributions of the thesis
Scientific significance
- The research results of the thesis provide a system of conceptual tools about the elderly and social support services for the elderly in care centers. This contributes to the testing and development of theories such as: theory of the elderly's needs, theory of ecological systems and theory of their social roles. Through the research results, the awareness of the community and society about caring for the elderly is partly enhanced. These results also contribute to supplementing scientific arguments for the planning, implementation and improvement of social policies for the elderly.
Practical significance
