- Research objectives: (1) To clarify China's objectives in implementing projects within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative in South Asia. (2) To clarify the position, role and participation of South Asian countries in this Initiative. (3) The current status of China's projects within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative in South Asia and its impacts. (4) To forecast the cooperation trend of the Belt and Road Initiative in South Asia in the coming time. (5) To recommend some policy implications for Vietnam when participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
- Research subject: South Asian countries' participation in China's Belt and Road Initiative and some policy recommendations for Vietnam.
- Research method: Historical method: used to outline the context, formation and development process of the Belt and Road Initiative in general and in South Asia in particular. Logic method: used to clarify the profound meaning of China when implementing this Initiative in South Asia, evaluate the achievements and limitations in the process of implementing the Belt and Road Initiative in the South Asia region. - Main results: In terms of theory: The thesis is the first systematic and in-depth research work in Vietnam on the position and role of South Asia in the Belt and Road Initiative and the current status of project implementation within the framework of this initiative in the South Asia region. Through analyzing the content, scale, and implementation process of the Belt and Road Initiative in South Asia, the thesis evaluates the achievements and limitations of this initiative, its impact on participating countries, the region and the world. At the same time, the author of the thesis analyzes the advantages, difficulties, and reactions of countries to the Belt and Road Initiative. These are the scientific bases for forecasting the implementation trend and the possibility of success of the Belt and Road Initiative in South Asia, serving as data for policy recommendations to Vietnam; In practice: Based on the results of research and scientific assessment of the role and position of South Asia in the BRI as well as the impact of the BRI on the development of South Asia, the thesis proposes a number of recommendations and solutions for Vietnam on appropriate and effective behavior when participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
