11. Summary of new results of the thesis:
1. Choosing to study the work "The Wharf Without a Husband" in the direction of discourse analysis, the thesis has contributed to clarifying the characteristics of literary discourse as well as providing additional evidence to affirm the usefulness of the theory of discourse analysis, showing the trend of language research.
Language does not stop at the structural level but needs to be expanded on the level of meaning and function of language units (pragmatics) in specific communication situations.2. The thesis has applied the theory of discourse analysis to the study of the discourse "The Wharf Without Husbands" on the levels of coherence, coherence and linguistic domain.
From the linking perspective, the thesis has pointed out that linking methods, besides connecting the meanings of sentences, paragraphs, and parts in the discourse, contribute to clarifying the coherence of the discourse, they also create tightness, clarity, and concise expression, helping the sentence become gentle and creating a balanced rhythm for the sentence.
From the coherent perspective, the thesis shows that “The Wharf Without a Husband” is not simply a text with a series of related contents, but between them there are connections, bound together by networks of relationships such as cause-effect relationships, temporal relationships and compatibility between linguistic actions.
From the linguistic perspective, the thesis has pointed out factors related to the situational context such as discourse field, discourse method and discourse atmosphere. In which, corresponding to each discourse field, there will be different discourse methods that express the relationships, communicative roles and communicative attitudes between characters (discourse atmosphere).
3. The results of the thesis research have provided a new approach, approaching from the perspective of discourse analysis for the work "Ben khong chong" in particular and literary discourses in general.
12. Practical application:
- The research results of the thesis will be a useful reference source for analyzing a narrative text from the linguistic perspective.- The results of the thesis research can also be considered as useful reference material in teaching and researching Vietnamese literary works in the Renovation period.
13. Further research directions:
1. Although the theory of discourse analysis opens up many directions of analysis, the thesis only stops at the level of coherence, connection and scope to study the discourse “Ben khong chong”. Some other levels of discourse analysis such as argumentation, dialogue, importance… in the work need to continue to be studied.
2. When approaching the work from the perspective of coherence, the thesis has pointed out three aspects of coherence (coherence through cause-effect relationships, coherence through time relationships and coherence in the compatibility of linguistic actions) but there are many other manifestations of coherence that have not been studied, such as: coherence in the relationship between topic - theme, coherence in the style of inferential reasoning, coherence in argumentative relationships... this opens up research directions in subsequent research works.

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
1. Choosing to analyze “Husbandless wharf” from a discoursal perspective, the thesis partially highlights the specific traits of literary discourse as well as providing additional evidence to reinstate the usefulness of discourse analysis theory. Therefore, it shows that language research direction not only focuses on structural level but also expands to semantic and pragmatic ones in specific conversational situations.
2. The thesis applies discourse analysis theory to analyze “Husbandless wharf” from the cohesive, coherent and register levels.
From the cohesive level, the thesis highlights that the cohesive devices, apart from helping to connect the ideas and meanings of sentences, passages and parts of discourse to partially clarify the coherence of discourse, also establish tight connection clarity and agreement, which lightens the sentences and creates a harmony between them.
From the coherent level, the thesis shows that “Husbandless wharf” is not simply a literature work comprised of series of related contents. In fact, between them there exists a connection and restriction formed by cause-effect and chronological relationships and speech act.
From the level of register, the thesis depicts the factors connecting to situational contexts such as field of discourse, mode of discourse and tenor of discourse. In the analysis, every field of discourse is accompanied by a correspondent mode of discourse to establish the relationships, conversational, roles and attitude of the characters (tenor of discourse).
3. The results of the thesis provides a new approach from the perspective of discourse analysis for literary discourse in general and for “Husbandless wharf” in specific.
12. Practical applicability:
- The research results of the thesis will be a useful source of reference for analyzing a narrative passage from a linguistic level.
- The research results of the thesis can also be useful source of reference for teaching and studying Vietnam's literature works during the renovation period.
13. Further research directions:
1. Although discourse analysis theory contains multiple analytical directions, the thesis only approaches “Husbandless wharf” from the levels of coherence, cohesion and registration. Several other levels such as argumentative, conversational, relevant, ... in the work will need further research.
2. Approaching the work form the level of coherence, the thesis highlights the 3 aspects of coherence (coherence through cause-effect relationship, coherence through chronological relationship and coherence through speech act. However, there still remain other aspects that are not yet researched, such as: coherence in the relationship between theme-topic, coherence through attributional inference, coherence through argumentative relationships. … This opens new approaches for futures research.
