I. REASONS AND OBJECTIVES FOR ORGANIZING THE SEMINAR
1. Background and reasons for organizing the event.
Over the past two decades, Vietnamese cinema has witnessed the increasingly prominent emergence of female directors with diverse and unique narrative styles. From established names like Pham Nhue Giang to younger directors such as Hong Anh, Ngo Thanh Van, Nguyen Hoang Diep, Mai Thu Huyen, Nguyen Trinh Thi, Dang Thai Huyen, Kathy Uyen, Duong Dieu Linh, Ha Le Diem, and others, female filmmakers have been creating their own "visual space," where gender, the body, and memory become central to expression.
In the context of Vietnamese cinema still heavily influenced by masculine discourse and cultural stereotypes, identifying and discussing "female narrative"—how women tell stories, recreate emotions and history through film—is essential. This seminar aims to connect filmmakers and researchers to exchange ideas and broaden the discourse on Vietnamese women's cinema in relation to gender studies and contemporary culture.
2. Purpose and expected results
- Purpose:
The aim of the seminar is to create an academic and creative space for exchanging ideas on female narrative and feminine visual language in Vietnamese cinema; to analyze how female directors construct the world of memory, body, and emotion in their works. From there, the seminar will contribute to identifying and recognizing the role of women in the history and present of Vietnamese cinema, raising public and student awareness of the face of contemporary female cinema; and simultaneously suggesting new approaches in teaching and researching Vietnamese cinema from a gender perspective.

III. CONTENT AND WORK PROGRAM
The seminar will be held over one morning, with seven presentations planned, focusing on the following topics:
- Exploring the narrative language of women in Vietnamese cinema: how female directors create their own perspectives, emotions, and storytelling spaces.
- Analyzing the imagery of the body and memory as central expressive elements in films by female directors.
- Dialogue between creativity and research: filmmakers and scholars share perspectives on gender, identity, and expressive rights in cinema.
- Identifying the challenges and position of female directors within the context of contemporary Vietnamese film industry and popular culture.
- Proposing a new approach to teaching and researching Vietnamese cinema from an expert's perspective.
