Roundtable discussion: “Social Sciences and Humanities in the Context of Artificial Intelligence and International Integration”

I. REASONS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION

1. Background and reasons for organizing the event.

Against the backdrop of Vietnam's vigorous implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation; the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation (Law No. 93/2025/QH15) and Government Decree No. 180/2025/ND-CP, social sciences and humanities are faced with the requirement to proactively participate in research and assessment of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on people, society, culture, and national governance, while contributing to building a framework of values, standards, and policy solutions in the digital age. The university is organizing the Hanoi Autumn Humanities Forum 2026 to promote interdisciplinary cooperation networks, both domestically and internationally, and to foster sustainable research, training, and academic exchange. This will guide the proposal for innovation in training content and research methods in social sciences and humanities (S&H) to align with AI trends and digital transformation, contributing to the concretization of the University's strategy for developing S&H in conjunction with science, technology, innovation, and international integration.

The roundtable discussion “Social Sciences and Humanities in the Context of Artificial Intelligence and International Integration” is a scientific event in the series of events of the Hanoi Autumn Forum 2026 (USSH.Hanoi Autumn Forum 2026) organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The roundtable discussion will explore the opportunities, challenges, and development directions of social sciences and humanities in the era of artificial intelligence; promote interdisciplinary cooperation to apply AI effectively, responsibly, and with a human-centered approach in research, training, and community service; and promote interdisciplinary and transnational research: collaboration in social sciences and humanities.

2. Purpose and expected results

- Creating a high-level academic dialogue forum through two roundtable discussions bringing together leading scholars for multi-faceted exchanges on the role of social sciences and humanities in the age of artificial intelligence and on interdisciplinary and transnational research collaboration.

- To promote connectivity and expand the network of research and training cooperation between the University and international partners; creating a foundation for cooperation agreements (MOUs) and joint programs for the period 2026 – 2030.

- To promote the image and academic prestige of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, and of the Vietnamese social sciences and humanities in the process of international integration.

- Establish and strengthen international academic networks; identify specific cooperation proposals as a basis for memoranda of understanding and joint research programs.

The forum focused on discussing the following two topics:

Topic 1. Social Sciences and Humanities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

- The role of AI in innovation in research and training in the social sciences and humanities.

- Opportunities for applying AI in teaching, research, administration, and social service.

- Ethical challenges, academic integrity, copyright, privacy, and bias in AI.

- AI capabilities and digital skills are essential for faculty, researchers, and students in the social sciences and humanities.

- Experiences in deploying AI in higher education institutions and practical lessons learned.

- Promote interdisciplinary research between AI and the social sciences and humanities.

- Policies, mechanisms, and governance models for the responsible development of AI in education and research.

- Propose collaborative initiatives, networks, and action programs to enhance the role of social sciences and humanities in the AI ​​era.

Topic 2: Interdisciplinary and Transnational Research: Collaboration in the Social Sciences and Humanities

- Explore how interdisciplinary approaches and transnational collaboration are reshaping research in the social sciences and humanities to address global and local challenges.

- Innovate research through an interdisciplinary approach, connecting scientific fields to address increasingly complex global and local problems.

- Promote transnational research cooperation, build sustainable academic networks, and enhance equal dialogue and co-creation of knowledge among nations.

- Sharing experiences and models of international cooperation in research, training, and development of interdisciplinary projects in the social sciences and humanities.

- Discuss the development trends of social sciences and humanities in the context of globalization, along with the opportunities and challenges for researchers.

Proposing solutions to promote international academic cooperation, support the younger generation of scholars in participating in research networks, and enhance their global research capabilities.
