History of formation

  • In 1991, the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology was established by a decision of the Minister of Education and Training.
  • In 1997, the Director of Hanoi National University issued a decision to separate the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology into two faculties: the Faculty of Sociology and the Faculty of Psychology.
  • Since 2006, in addition to training in Sociology, the Faculty has been one of the first institutions in the country to train in Social Work.

Mission

Leading the way in training high-quality, innovative human resources, disseminating in-depth and broad knowledge and skills in sociology and social work, contributing to timely service for the cause of national construction and development.

With a high-quality staff including 1 Professor, 7 Associate Professors, 7 Doctors, 11 PhD candidates and 3 Masters (in 2017), the Faculty has achieved many accomplishments in various areas of activity such as:

Currently, with a high-quality staff including 4 Associate Professors, 12 Doctors, 5 Masters, and 1 Bachelor, the Faculty has achieved many accomplishments in various areas of activity such as:
• Regarding training: Annually, the Faculty trains approximately 150 bachelor's degree holders, 40 master's degree holders, and 20 doctoral candidates in two fields (Sociology and Social Work), and also collaborates with several ministries and agencies to organize numerous short-term training courses to supplement knowledge in Sociology and Social Work.
• Regarding scientific research: 100% of the Faculty's staff have experience leading and participating in scientific research projects at various levels and collaborative research projects both domestically and internationally. Annually, Faculty staff publish an average of 10 ISI/Scopus articles, 20 articles in national and international scientific journals and conference proceedings. On average, Faculty staff also lead and participate in 5 institutional-level projects, 3 national-level projects, and 3 state-level projects annually, as well as numerous domestic and international projects related to Sociology and Social Work.
• Regarding international cooperation: the Faculty maintains international cooperation relationships with partners from universities in Japan, France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, the USA, Australia, etc., resulting in numerous collaborative products such as: Master's programs in Applied Sociology, Master's programs in Social Work, international conference proceedings, books, scientific articles, community development services, and international research projects.

  • Strengthen specialized training at the undergraduate level, and develop training programs in basic and applied research at the master's level.
  • Continue to promote scientific research, international cooperation, and the provision of social services.
  • Diversify and maximize development resources with the motto: Unity - Creativity - Comprehensive Development.
  • Reforming training programs to be up-to-date and internationally integrated.
