QS WUR by Subject 2026: Linguistics and Modern Languages ​​in the Top 300 Worldwide

These are the results of the 2026 university rankings published by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) education organization on March 25, 2026.
 

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 (QS WUR by Subject 2026), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has 13 ranked subjects (of which 9/13 are in the top 500). A highlight of this ranking is that, for the first time, the subject is included in the ranking.Linguistics is ranked in the top 251-300 worldwide.. FieldModern languages ​​are ranked in the top 251-300 worldwide for the first time.And VNU is also the only higher education institution in Vietnam to be ranked in this field.

In the aforementioned fields, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is proud to have made many achievements in training and scientific research.
Throughout its more than 80-year history and over 30 years under the name of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the university has consistently adhered to its development orientation as a research university, continuing to affirm its leading position in research and training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, striving to be among the top 100 universities in the continent by 2035 and on par with advanced universities (among the top 500) in the world.
The university boasts a leading team of scientists in many fields, with over 400 scientists, of whom more than 80% hold PhD degrees and 25% hold professorships or associate professorships, placing it among the highest-ranking universities in Vietnam.
The university's training and research fields have been highly ranked in global rankings. In the QS World University Rankings, Sociology is ranked 301–350 globally (2025); Social Sciences & Management is ranked 501–550 globally (2025). In the THE World University Rankings, Social Sciences is ranked 501–600 globally (2024) and is expected to maintain its position in the 601–800 group globally (2025).
A culture of quality assurance is identified as one of the core values ​​and a decisive factor in the school's position and reputation. The school has invested resources in developing a quality assurance system and implementing quality accreditation for educational institutions and training programs. To date, 100% of the school's undergraduate programs that meet the quality assessment criteria have undergone accreditation according to domestic and international standards.

QS WUR by Subject 2026This is a ranking of universities across 55 fields within 5 subject groups, encompassing 1912 higher education institutions and approximately 21,000 university programs.
The QS WUR by subject ranking is based on five criteria with weights customized to suit different fields, including: Academic Reputation; Employer Reputation; Citations per paper; H-index measuring the productivity and impact of faculty publications; and International Research Network.
QS ranking criteria emphasize the contribution and impact of a field of study's quality of education on society (through assessments by academics and employers); contributions to scientific research (through citation levels and H-index); and the ability to internationalize scientific research (through international research networks).
