Research on the Resistance War against the US in Vietnam in general is not a new topic. But the novelty of this work is the approach to research the issue from the perspective of international relations, especially the "trilateral" relationship between Vietnam - Soviet Union - China.
Inheriting the research results of predecessors, combined with rich and diverse sources of documents both at home and abroad, the author has succeeded in analyzing the movement of the triangular relationship between Vietnam and the two largest socialist countries, the Soviet Union and China, in the period from 1954 to 1975.
The book has a tight, scientific and logical structure of 8 chapters. In the first part, the author presented the theoretical basis of the strategic triangle relationship, its formation, characteristics and implications for the case of Vietnam. On that basis, the author analyzed in depth the basis for the formation of the Vietnam - Soviet Union - China triangular relationship, the process of movement as well as the results of these relationships through the stages of the war. Finally, the author comprehensively assessed the impact of the Vietnam - Soviet Union - China triangular relationship on the war situation, on each country, the region and the world. The lessons that the author drew after studying the Vietnam - Soviet Union - China triangular relationship in the resistance war against the US are still valuable today. That is, in foreign affairs, we must put national interests first, must have an independent, autonomous, clever, proactive policy, balance the relationship between major countries with the motto "respond to all changes with the unchanging".

“The novelty of the work is the research approach from the perspective of the “three-way” relationship between Vietnam - Soviet Union - China” (Professor Vu Duong Ninh).
It can be said that the research work of Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh has mentioned a very complex but also very interesting issue. Complex because there is an intertwining, dependence and close relationship between the three subjects of Vietnam, the Soviet Union and China. Interesting because each issue needs to be viewed and considered from different angles. The development of the Vietnam - Soviet Union - China triangle relationship during the resistance war against the US is a typical example of international politics during the Cold War. In that war, each country had its own goals, policies and methods to achieve its ultimate goal. All of these show the complexity of the Vietnam - Soviet Union - China triangle relationship. Thanks to its mettle and intelligence, its sober and clever handling, Vietnam was able to protect its national interests and bring the resistance war to success.
The research work of Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh is even more meaningful when it was completed on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the end of the war to liberate the South and unify the country (1975-2015).
With all that in mind, I would like to respectfully introduce this valuable research work to you.
