Today, population issues have become one of the most pressing issues of our time. For many countries, including Vietnam, population growth has caused considerable concern.

Furthermore, the world is increasingly concerned with the quality of life and the enhancement of human values within society. This is reflected in the United Nations' right to protection, care, and education for children. This is also one of the factors causing the centuries-old tradition of having many children to collapse. Nowadays, families typically only need one or two children. This is a socio-psychological mechanism of reducing the number of people in response to modern living conditions.

Specifically for Vietnam, one of the important goals of population policy is to keep the birth rate low.

To achieve this goal successfully, psychology plays a huge role, because "...the whole strong will of millions of parents will ultimately determine the number of children born in the country" (B. Urlanic).

The subjects and objects of population behavior are human beings – conscious and volitional entities – possessing certain psychological characteristics and living within a specific socio-economic system. Therefore, along with other aspects of population reproduction such as biomedical, socio-economic, etc., the socio-psychological aspect of population growth is receiving increasing attention. This has spurred the emergence of a very new branch of psychology – population psychology. This textbook is the first document in Vietnam on population psychology, a completely new scientific field in our country.

The curriculum consists of four chapters:

I. What does population psychology study?

II. Psychological Issues of Reproductive Behavior at the Societal Level

III. Psychological Issues of Reproductive Behavior at the Family Level

IV. Psychological Issues of Reproductive Behavior at the Individual Level

Each chapter clearly outlines the learning objectives, review questions, and discussion topics.
