Student Scientific Research Conference “Green Torch” 2020-2021

On April 19, 2021, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, organized the "Green Torch" Student Scientific Research Conference for the 2020-2021 academic year. At the conference, seven authors/groups of authors had the opportunity to present their scientific research projects conducted during the past academic year and receive feedback and comments from the Scientific Council.

Attending and participating in the Conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), Dr. Phan Van Kien (Lecturer at the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training), Dr. Duong Xuan Quang (Lecturer at the Faculty of Linguistics), Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (Lecturer at the Institute of Policy and Management), Ms. Ta Thi Bich Ngoc (Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), and Ms. Nguyen Bich Dao (President of the University's Student Association).

First organized during the 2009-2010 academic year's Student Scientific Research Competition under the name "Youth Union Award," since the 2014-2015 academic year, the award has officially been named "Green Torch" as a continuation of the tradition and prestige in scientific research of the University, with the enthusiasm and passion of youth to bring glory to a research university.

During the 2020-2021 academic year's student scientific research season, the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities continued to organize the "Green Torch" Student Scientific Research Conference to honor student scientific research projects that address practical issues relevant to students, have applications in the work of the Youth Union and student associations, and the youth movement of the University; and at the same time, to inspire and promote the creativity, initiative, and enthusiasm of students for scientific research activities.

This year's conference is themed "Digital Humanities," with research directions including: the application of science, technology, and engineering in the social sciences and humanities; interdisciplinary research by students in the social sciences and humanities; the needs, aesthetics, and values ​​of students in the digital age; student entrepreneurship; and initiatives related to youth union and student association activities.

The "Green Torch" Certificate was awarded to 7 authors/groups of authors at the conference.

Following the opening ceremony and introduction of the "Green Torch" award, the conference listened to presentations on student scientific research topics by 7 participating authors/groups of authors. Each author/group of authors had 10 minutes to present the results of their research, followed by 5 minutes for reviewers, attendees to ask questions, and for the individual/group of authors to answer. The scientific research projects and presentations of the authors/groups of authors were evaluated and considered for awards according to the criteria provided by the award organizing committee beforehand.

After more than two hours of observing the presentations of seven authors/groups of authors and offering comments and counter-arguments, the Scientific Council deliberated and decided to award seven prizes to the research projects participating in the Conference, specifically as follows:

  • Most impressive research topic category: Authors Le Thi Tuyet, Le Dai Minh, Nguyen Que Ly, Nguyen Hien Mai (K62 Clinical Psychology): Topic “The relationship between mindfulness and stress in adolescents in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: The mediating role of control mechanisms”.
  • Outstanding Survey Category: Authors Pham Phuong Nhi, Tran Mai Phuong, Le Thi Hoai, Hoang Thi Nhung (K63 Sociology): Topic “Awareness and Behavior Regarding the Use of Disposable Plastics Among Students (Case Study of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi)”.
  • Category of research topics with high practical application: Authors Nguyen Linh Chi and Dao Khanh Ha (K63 Sociology): Topic “The current state of students' awareness and behavior regarding copyright issues in the learning environment (Research at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities)”.
  • Outstanding Solution Category: Authors Tu Thi Minh Nguyet and Le Thi Tuyet (K64 Office Management): Topic: “Application of Ergonomics in the Design of Study Spaces in Student Dormitories”.
  • Outstanding Presentation Category and Most Popular Award (Based on votes on the Fanpage): Authors Vu Thi Phuong, Do Ngoc Anh, Chu Thao Anh (K63 Tourism Studies): Topic “Assessing student satisfaction with the UPM online learning platform (Case study at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities)”.
  • Project of the Year: Author Le Dinh Dai (K64 Philosophy): Project "The Life Values ​​of Students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Today".
  • Potential research topic category: Authors Nguyen Kim Tung (K63B Management Science), Nguyen Thi Le Vy (K63B Management Science), Nguyen Thi Nguyen (K62B Management Science), Truong Thi Thanh (K62A Management Science): Topic “Promoting student entrepreneurship in Hanoi through enhancing access to capital from angel investors.”
