We invite you to participate in EFEO's multidisciplinary history writing training course.

Following the success of the 2017 training course, the EFEO Office will organize a training course on multidisciplinary history writing methods in 2018.

The purpose of this training course is to help participants better understand the use of various methods in historical writing. In addition to traditional historical research methods, the course will emphasize the particular importance of reading archival materials, discussing archaeology, anthropology, and cartography. Classes are held once a week. The language of instruction is Vietnamese.

The course will be held at the EFEO Office (number5A (Ha Hoi Hamlet, Hanoi). Lecturers include Andrew Hardy (History), Nguyen Tien Dong (Archaeology), Vu Thi Minh Huong (History, Archaeology), Dao The Duc and Hoang Cam (Anthropology), Federico Barocco (Archaeology, Cartography) and several other experts.

The content focuses on introduction and discussion:

  1. Multidisciplinary research methodology.
  2. This method has been used in the research of the Quang Ngai rampart relic and the history of Central Vietnam by the EFEO-VASS research group (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) since 2005.
  3. Students' individual research projects.

Applicants must be university graduates, graduate students, or first-year doctoral candidates majoring in History or related fields. We encourage applicants with training in Historical Linguistics and Historical Archaeology. Proficiency in a foreign language for Vietnamese history research (French, Sino-Vietnamese, English, minority languages, or other) will be an advantage.
