The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) announces the schedule for the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Assessment according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners in 2024.

*The school will not organize the Vietnamese Proficiency Assessment test according to the Vietnamese Proficiency Framework if the number of candidates registering for the test is less than 30.exam.
*Backup test dates are used in case of any issues arising from the main test date.
2. Time and location of the exam:

3. Contestants
Individuals who need to have their Vietnamese proficiency assessed and receive a Vietnamese certificate:
a) Have a valid exam registration form; pay all exam fees and certificate issuance fees as prescribed;
b) Not during the period of being banned from taking exams as prescribed in Point g, Clause 2, Article 29Circular No. 27/2021/TT-BGDDT dated October 7, 2021(Banned from taking the national Vietnamese proficiency test for the next 2 years for those who commit one of the following violations: Letting others take the test or do the test for others in any form; causing disturbance or sabotaging the test; assaulting the test organizer or other candidates).
4. Exam fee
3.1. For candidates who do not studypracticein University of Social Sciences and Humanities: 3.800.000 VND
3.2. ForCandidates studying at University of Social Sciences and Humanities60 hours or more in the 6 months prior to the exam date:2.500,000 VND
5. Application form
- 02 photos size 4x6(cm)Taken no more than 06 months before the registration date, the back of the photo must clearly state full name and date of birth;
- Copy of valid passport;
- Exam registration form (including information about full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number and date of issue, time and place of exam registration and other necessary information);
- 01 photocopyproof of student study atSchool from60 hours or more in the 6 months prior to the exam date(if any).
* Note: Candidates bring original identification documents andproofstudents to compare when submitting application.
6. Submit application and exam fee
- Center for Vietnamese Language and Culture, room 114, building A, 336 Nguyen Trai, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi
-Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, Building B7 Bis, Tran Dai Nghia Street, Bach Khoa Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi.
*Time to receive documentsand exam feesWeekdays: Monday to Friday, morning from 8:30 to 11:30, afternoon: from 14:00 to 16:30
7. Exam Information
Candidates can view exam locations, exam room lists, registration numbers and exam schedules at the Website:https://ussh.vnu.edu.vn/orhttp://vsl.edu.vn/.
*Note: When taking the exam, candidates must bring valid identification documents (original). Candidates are not allowed to bring into the exam area: mobile phones, broadcasting devices, other equipment, including watches... Candidates arriving late after the scheduled exam time will not be allowed to take the exam.
8. Exam format
• Examskilllisten:
- Part 1: Candidates listen to a question or a situation and then choose the correct answer;
- Part 2, 3, 4: Candidates listen to a conversation or a text and then choose the correct answer;
*Note: Listening questions can only be heard once.
•Dyesskill testread:subject including40 sentences, candidateRead the passages then choose the correct answer;
•Dyesskill testWriting: The writing task has 3 parts:
- Part 1: Fill in the blanks;
- Part 2: Reply to a letter;
- Part 3: Write an essay;
•Dyesskill testThe test has 3 parts:
- Part 1: Answer the questions;
- Part 2: Discuss and choose one of the given options;
- Part 3: Candidates talk about a given general or academic topic, using the ideas provided or developing their own ideas (part 3 ends with some discussion questions on the above topic);
Note: Listening, Reading and Writing tests will be taken on computer.
9. Exam results
- Notice on Website:https://ussh.vnu.edu.vn/orhttp://vsl.edu.vn/maximum 5 working days from the exam date.
-Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking and final scores are calculated on a 10-point scale, with decimal points up to 0.5.
- The final score is converted according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for foreigners as follows:

Level 1 |
Understand and use familiar language structures; use basic vocabulary to meet specific communication needs; introduce self and others; present information about oneself such as: place of residence, relatives/friends and other people. Can communicate in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly, clearly and is willing to help. |
Level 2 |
Understand sentences and frequently used language structures related to areas of most immediate need, such as personal and family information, shopping, asking for directions, employment. Can exchange information on simple, familiar, everyday topics, describe in simple terms aspects of himself/herself, his/her immediate environment and matters of immediate need. |
Level 3 |
Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school or leisure activities. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in Vietnamese. Can write simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences, events and wishes and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. |
Level 4 |
Understand the main ideas of fairly complex text on a wide range of subjects, including discussions in his/her own field of expertise. Can communicate fluently and spontaneously with Vietnamese speakers; can write clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects and state his/her point of view on an issue, giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. |

Recognize and understand the implications of longer, wide-ranging texts. Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, without difficulty finding the right words; uses language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes; writes clearly, coherently and in detail on complex subjects, demonstrating good organisational skills, good use of connectors and cohesive devices. |
Level 6 |
Understands easily most written and spoken texts. Can summarise information from various written and spoken sources and reconstruct it in a logical manner; expresses himself very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer differences of meaning even in more complex situations. |
Note:
- Do not consider converting according to the Vietnamese Proficiency Framework for foreigners if the candidate has 1 of the 4 skills scoring below 1.
- Candidates can only convert to a maximum of Level 2 according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for foreigners if 1 of the 4 skills scores below 3.5.
10. Exam review
- After the exam results are announced on the Website, within 07 working days, candidates who need to have their exam reviewed must submit a request for review of their exam. The review fee is 100,000 VND for marking 1 skill (Listening/Reading/Speaking/Writing) at the Training Department - 207 Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
- The results of the review will be announced no later than 15 days from the first day of receiving the review application.
11. Certificate
- Vietnamese language certificate according to the Vietnamese language proficiency framework for foreigners. Candidates must present their passport when receiving the certificate.
- Candidates receive certificates at the Training Department - 207 Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
