To commemorate the 120th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth and the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi, the Association of Retired Faculty Members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a seminar with the participation of its members on the morning of May 18, 2010.Having been associated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities since its early days as a university, and having spent most of their lives and studies during the war years, the former faculty members have many memorable memories of Hanoi and President Ho Chi Minh. Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Khang recounted his meeting with President Ho Chi Minh at the Presidential Palace; Ms. Nguyen Anh Tho shared her memories of Hanoi and the moment she heard the news of President Ho Chi Minh's death; Mr. Nguyen Khanh Hung analyzed Ho Chi Minh's character from the perspective of a sociologist; and Mr. Nguyen Trong Thao shared his thoughts and feelings about President Ho Chi Minh during his time in the military and in combat... The personal stories shared by the faculty members were very touching, reminding us of a generation of students and intellectual youth who lived and studied following President Ho Chi Minh's example, living and studying for the ideal of independence and national liberation.

Other opinions were based on the professors' own research on the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, thereby reaffirming his great intellect, vision, and cultural personality. From their affection for President Ho Chi Minh and the thousand-year-old city of Hanoi, the professors also shared their thoughts on current higher education and training. Opinions at the seminar suggested that current higher education needs to further develop its role in training workers with good qualities, solid knowledge, creative thinking, and professional skills. Learning must go hand in hand with practice; students must know how to apply knowledge to real life, and have the ideal of serving the country and society. That is the important goal of current training.
