The 5th Congress of the University's Student Union was a great success.

The 5th Congress of the Student Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was successfully held on May 15, 2010, with the participation of 212 delegates representing more than 5,500 students from the entire university.The conference heard reports on the results of the internal session, a summary of the report on the work of the Student Union in the fourth term, and the direction and tasks of the University Student Union for the fifth term. The conference assessed that the work of the Student Union and the student movement in the 2007-2009 term achieved concrete results, thereby contributing to affirming the position, role, and contributions of the organization within the University's political system as well as in the general activities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Student Union and the Hanoi City Student Union. The outstanding achievements that the Student Union accomplished during the past term include:

• There are many innovative approaches in the work of political and ideological education for student union members.
• There are specific steps being taken to participate in the process of improving the quality of training at the University through activities supporting and encouraging student associations in their studies and scientific research.
• Promote direct activities as well as integrate theatrical performances, cultural and artistic programs, and activities of specialized groups, teams, and clubs to enrich the cultural and spiritual life of students.
• Continuing to implement numerous social, volunteer, and community-building activities has attracted a large number of students.
• Student club models at the university and faculty levels have been maintained stably and have many new features in their activities, especially with extensive links with units inside and outside VNU.

In its work plan for the 2010-2012 term, the University's Student Union aims to continue maintaining and developing its achievements and pioneering position in the Student Union movement of Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the Hanoi City Student Union; to continue building and strengthening the organization, innovating methods and improving the quality of its activities. The action slogan is: Moral development - Academic excellence - Pioneering spirit - Integration.

With achievements in the past term, the University's Student Union and Comrade Pham Huy Cuong - President of the University's Student Union - received commendations from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Union; 3 collectives and 5 individuals received commendations from the Hanoi City Student Union; and 5 collectives and 5 individuals received commendations from the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Student Union. In his directive speech at the congress, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu - Vice Rector of the University - emphasized the role of the Student Union and the Youth Union in helping students better adapt to the credit-based training method. To achieve this, the Union needs to organize more activities to exchange experiences between teachers and students, and between upper and lower-year students... to help students have a correct understanding of the new learning and teaching methods and to exchange and share highly effective learning solutions. The congress also elected 21 members to the Executive Committee of the University's Student Union for the fifth term (2010-2012).

• The student union at the branch level effectively maintains a model of active participation in the annual summer volunteer program.
• 100% of LCH has clubs, organizations, teams, and groups that operate stably and effectively.
