Marco Polo's stories about China gave Europe a better understanding of this giant Eastern nation. But the East is not just China. The East is mysterious, the East is a source of raw materials, the East boasts magnificent cultures. There you'll find the "Pyramids," the "Great Wall," the "Indus-Ganges Civilization"—the birthplace of Buddhism, and the "Southeast Asian Civilization." The East is also dynamic, youthful, diverse, and rich in creativity, encompassing Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. If you want to satisfy your curiosity and thirst for knowledge about Eastern countries throughout their history, you can't miss the Department of Oriental Studies. This prestigious university provides comprehensive knowledge about the Eastern region. The department has five majors: Japanese Studies, Chinese Studies, Southeast Asian and Australian Studies, Korean Studies, and Indian Studies. At the Department of Oriental Studies, you will learn comprehensive knowledge including the history, culture, literature, geography, economics, and politics/diplomacy of these countries. In particular, you will learn unique foreign languages (Thai, Malay, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, and Persian in their native countries) to enrich your future career prospects. The curriculum is modern, up-to-date, and systematic. These are the main features of the Faculty's program. Not only does it have a standard curriculum, but the Faculty also continuously receives support in terms of teaching materials and research resources from universities in the region. The Korean Studies department of the Faculty is responsible for coordinating with Korea to develop a standard Korean Studies training program in Vietnam. Japanese students can study online (e-learning) with professors from the University of Tokyo… Scholarships, study abroad scholarships, and overseas internships are outstanding attractions of the Faculty. The Faculty has cooperative relationships with dozens of universities in the region (Peking University, University of Tokyo, Seoul National University, Chulalongkorn University...). Every year, students of the Faculty receive numerous scholarships from partner universities, embassies, or foreign businesses. In particular, scholarships for studying abroad offer a wide range of durations and levels of study, from exchange programs and undergraduate studies to postgraduate research.
