Former student's opinion: History major

Sunday - March 28, 2010 06:25
OPINIONS OF FORMER STUDENTS Dr. Nguyen Van Doan Head of Research and Collection Department, Vietnam National Museum of History. “History is an extremely useful and interesting science. Everything that happens in human life and thought in the past and present is the object of research in History. And so, there are so many things that Historians want to understand and discover. However, to be able to achieve any results (even very small ones), it requires researchers to have a broad and deep knowledge base, in addition to passion and dedication to the job. But above all, Historians must have a truly scientific research method. This is an extremely important core issue, creating a difference from other training centers that each student of the History Department of Hanoi National University, including me, has been taught, so that with a certain effort, after the learning process, they can participate in work at a Research Institute like today.” Master Nguyen Thi Hoan Former History student, class 37 (92-96), Deputy Head of the Department of Revolutionary Guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Faculty of Political Theory - Hanoi National Economics University. Before choosing to study History, I was very hesitant. In our time, the majors considered trendy had to be associated with the word "foreign". Taking the entrance exam to the History department was completely my personal choice, without any guidance from my family or relatives, because my family was in the business profession. I passed the entrance exam to the History department and majored in world history. Until now, I have always been satisfied with my choice. I am always grateful to the teachers of the History department for giving me the most beautiful years of my student life. The lectures of Professor Vu Minh Giang on the history of the Vietnamese people, the late Professor Tran Quoc Vuong on the cultural identity of Vietnam, Professor Phan Huy Le on Vietnamese villages, Professor Le Mau Han on the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Professor Vu Duong Ninh on international relations... have left deep impressions on me. Those lectures are still valuable today, and are the foundation for the work and maturity of me and many of my classmates today. Dr. Vu Truong Giang, Lecturer of the Faculty of Ethnicities and Religions. Academy of Politics and Administration, Region I. Currently, there is no university in Vietnam that meets international "standards", but for a long time, there have been many teachers of Hanoi University of Science, now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general, and the Faculty of History in particular, who have met international "standards" and "above" international standards. That is one of the very important factors that create the "brand" of a Bachelor of Science degree. For students of the History department in particular, because they are trained in an environment with many good teachers, with a scientifically designed program, most of them when graduating are always able to adapt to the requirements of practice and complete all assigned tasks well. They are always grateful and capitalize the word TEACHER - those who have equipped them not only with specific knowledge of historical science, but more importantly, with the approach and problem-solving methods, with the courage and personality of a human being!
