Former student's opinion: History major

FORMER STUDENT OPINION - Dr. Nguyen Van Doan, Head of Research and Collection Department, Vietnam Historical Museum. “History is an incredibly beneficial and fascinating science. Everything that has happened in human life and thought throughout history is the subject of historical research. Therefore, there are countless things historians aspire to understand and discover. However, to achieve any results (even small ones), researchers need a broad and deep knowledge base, along with passion and dedication to their work. But above all, historians must have a truly scientific research methodology. This is a crucial and extremely important issue, creating a difference from other training centers, and it is the knowledge that each student of the History Department at Hanoi University, including myself, has been taught, enabling us, with our efforts, to participate in research at a research institute like the one we are working at today.” Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan, M.A., Former History Student, Class 37 (1992-1996), Deputy Head of the Department of Revolutionary Guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Faculty of Political Theory, National Economics University, Hanoi. Before choosing to study History, I was very hesitant. In our time, the most fashionable majors were associated with "foreign" fields. Applying to the History department was entirely my personal choice, without any guidance from my family or relatives, as my family is involved in business. I passed the entrance exam and studied World History. To this day, I am always satisfied with my choice. I am always grateful to the professors in the History department for giving me such wonderful years as a student. The lectures of Professor Vu Minh Giang on Vietnamese national history, the late Professor Tran Quoc Vuong on Vietnamese cultural identity, Professor Phan Huy Le on Vietnamese villages, Professor Le Mau Han on the history of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Professor Vu Duong Ninh on international relations… have left a deep impression on me. These lectures remain valuable to this day, forming the foundation for my work and the growth of many of my classmates today. Dr. Vu Truong Giang, Senior Lecturer, Department of Ethnic and Religious Studies, Academy of Politics and Administration, Region I. Currently, no Vietnamese university has achieved international "standards," but for a long time, many professors at Hanoi University, now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general, and the History Department in particular, have achieved and exceeded international "standards." This is one of the very important factors that creates the "brand" of a Bachelor's degree. For history students in particular, thanks to being trained in an environment with many excellent teachers and a scientifically designed curriculum, most of them are able to adapt to the demands of practice and successfully complete all assigned tasks upon graduation. They always express their gratitude and capitalize the word "TEACHERS"—those who have equipped them not only with specific knowledge of historical science, but more importantly, with approaches and methods for problem-solving, as well as character and integrity!
