On April 11th, 2019, Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh (USSH's Rector) and representatives of Faculty of Sociology and Office for Cooperation and Development welcomed the delegation of German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) led by Mr.Christopher Mallman (Senior Advisor of the Project Social Dimension of Sustainable Green Growth in Vietnam).

At the meeting, GIZ's representatives introduced about the Project Social Dimension of Sustainable Green Growth in Vietnam, which has been implemented since 2016 with Vietnam's Ministry of Labor-Invalids-Social Affairs. It is aimed at introducing the social dimension into the development of green growth policies and strategies. The Project has conducted activities to provide technical support and transfer knowledge and expriences in social policy designing and help improve the capability of officers and staff of the Government of Vietnam.

For higher education institutions such as USSH, the Project would like to help improve the capability of its lecturers and students in the field of social impact assessment, thereby including this field in the curricula of relevant units such as Division of Social work and Faculty of Sociology. To begin with, GIV's representatives suggested holding training workshops and courses to introduce social impact assessment skills to the University's staff and lecturers.

On behalf of USSH, Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the goodwill shown by GIZ through the introduction of said Project. The Rector also agreed that universities can play a role in the development of social policies at state level. As such, the University's Faculty of Sociology will discuss thoroughly with GIZ's representatives about possible collaborative activities. The two sides may also sign an official MOU as a framework for cooperation.

Founded in 2011, the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) is under the authority of Germany's Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. This is an exprienced organization having developed and implemented many social impact and poverty assessments in countries around the world, and has been a life-long partner of Vietnam in the field of social welfare and green growth.
