At the meeting, Prof. Joyce Chi-Hui Liu introduced about the International Center for Cultural Studies (ICCS). Founded in 2012, ICCS is a cross-university academic institution, bridging four major universities in the University System of Taiwan, including National Chiao Tung University, National Tsing Hua University, National Central University, and National Yang Ming University. ICCS integrates scholars in the social sciences and humanities from these four universities, hosts the International MA Program in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, promotes interdisciplinary, cross-university, and trans-national research collaborations, and cultivates an international education environment. Currently, ICCS implements the research project "Conflict, Justice and Decolonization: Critical Studies in Inter-Asian Socities", gathering 31 sholars across disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, economic history, political philosophy, gender studies, and discourse analysis.
In addition, the Institute for Social Research and Cultural Studies (SRCS) of Chiao Tung University is conducting the project "Migrant Worker's Rights, Law Consultation and Trans-local Connection". As there are many similarities between the orientations pursued by Chiao Tung University's ICCS and SRCS and the those by USSH, Prof. Joyce Chi-Hui Liu invited scholars of the University to participate in these projects.
Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh gives Prof. Joyce Chi-Hui Liu a gift
On behalf of USSH, Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the ideas for cooperation offered by the International Center for Cultural Studies and the Institute for Social Research and Cultural Studies. With an assembly of inter-disciplinary scientists and researchers, USSH is fully capable of participating in said projects. This also helps promote international publications, which is part of the strategy of internationalization pursued by the University. Accordingly, the University's relevant units will discuss about possible options for cooperation with ICCS and SRCS's representatives.
Founded in 1896, Chiao Tung University is located in Hsin Chu, Taiwan. It was ranked 174th in the world and 31st in Asia by QS World University Rankings 2016/17. It has over 10,000 students and 9 colleges: Biological Science and Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Hakka Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management, Photonics and Science.
