QS ASIA 2025: VNU-Hanoi Climbs 26 Spots in Asia's Top University Rankings

On November 6, 2024, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced the results of the QS Asia University Rankings 2025 (QS AUR 2025). According to the rankings, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) has risen to 161st position, an impressive jump of 26 places compared to its rank of 187 in QS AUR 2024. This achievement places VNU-Hanoi among the top 17% of higher education institutions in Asia.

In the 2025 rankings, QS assessed 984 universities across Asia, including 142 universities that entered the rankings for the first time. These rankings are based on an analysis of over 1.9 million academic reputation votes and 660,000 employer reputation votes worldwide. Additionally, QS analyzed more than 175.9 million citations (from 2018–2023) of 17.4 million academic publications (from 2018–2022).

VNU-Hanoi demonstrated consistent improvement, maintaining strong performance in its top three evaluated indicators from the previous ranking. Specifically, the university ranked 89th in Asia for its International Research Network, scoring 87.2 points; 137th for Employer Reputation, with 57.3 points; and rose 11 places in Academic Reputation, ranking 136th with 49.9 points. Out of the 11 evaluation criteria, VNU-Hanoi ranked in the top 100 for one criterion, the top 200 for three criteria, and the top 400 for four criteria in Asia.

The stable performance of VNU-Hanoi in Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation highlights the university's consistent quality in education, research, and professional development activities. These achievements have helped establish its strong reputation among scholars and employers both domestically and internationally.

In addition to VNU-Hanoi, 16 other Vietnamese universities were included in QS AUR 2025, with two newcomers: Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Vinh University. The remaining 14 ranked institutions include: Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), Nguyen Tat Thanh University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Hue University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, University of Danang, Can Tho University, University of Transport and Communications, Van Lang University, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi National University of Education.

This marks a significant milestone for Vietnam’s higher education landscape, reflecting its growing presence and recognition in the regional academic arena.
