Integrating highly practical modules
As one of the oldest faculties with nearly 80 years of formation and development, and a leading reputation in literary training and research, the Faculty of Literature has the mission of training high-quality human resources with solid knowledge, a democratic, scientific, and humanistic spirit in literature and art to serve the cause of national construction and renewal.
This place is also the cradle for training many generations of literature students who have matured and made significant contributions to the national literature as well as other professions in society.
By choosing the Literature major, students will receive a comprehensive, systematic, and highly academic knowledge system about Vietnamese and world literature, as well as literary theory principles and literary research theories.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Nam Hoang, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, building on the solid tradition of a basic science discipline, the Faculty of Literature has integrated and included highly applied and career-oriented courses, such as literary translation and film screenwriting. “The courses are increasingly updated with research trends and the application of literature and art in life,” said Dr. Nguyen Thi Nam Hoang.
In addition, students broaden their horizons with knowledge of history, languages, and journalism, enabling them to work in fields such as media, journalism, and publishing in the future.
Following the rapidly developing global trend of application, literature education is undergoing innovations such as integrating specialized fields in art, film, culture, and media.Literature students also receive free professional development courses to prepare them with the necessary skills for employment after graduation, such as journalism skills, content writing skills, interview and CV writing skills, and how to impress recruiters…
In particular, Literature students can pursue a second major starting in their second year at several faculties/institutes of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and some member universities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, such as the University of Foreign Languages, the University of Law, and the University of Education.
As a result, graduates from the Faculty of Literature can work in many fields and are among the top students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in terms of the percentage of graduates who find employment after graduation.
Literature students and diverse career fields
Dr. Nguyen Thi Nam Hoang proudly shared that former students of the Literature major are now working in many different fields and professions, such as literary research at universities and research institutes, as lecturers at universities, and as teachers at high schools.
In recent years, the career field of Literature has expanded into journalism and media, with alumni holding positions at prestigious newspapers and media companies as journalists, reporters, and editors.
Literature students are also very successful in the field of digital content and are renowned screenwriters with cinematic works such as: *Sunflower Against the Sun*, *The Taste of Family Love*, *Go Home, My Son*... This is a strong area for Literature students, demonstrating their dynamism and creativity based on the knowledge and skills they have honed during their studies.
Internationalizing education: opening up more opportunities for interaction with international lecturers and students.
With the goal of integrating the Faculty of Literature into the international academic environment, in recent years, the Faculty has continuously promoted cooperation activities with domestic and foreign organizations such as: the Institute of Literature, the Institute of Han Nom Studies, the Buddhist Academy, Nha Nam Culture and Communication Company, Literature Publishing House, Women's Publishing House, Youth Publishing House, etc.
At the same time, the Faculty of Literature has also established several international cooperation relationships with prestigious universities around the world such as Aix Marseille University, Paris 7 University (France); Charles University (Czech Republic); National Cheng Kung University, Kinmen University, Taiwan Museum of Modern Literature…
Sharing about his studies at the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, student Hoang Quoc Phuong said that literature students participate in many seminars attended by many prominent scientists and cultural figures from France, Belgium, Japan, China, Taiwan, etc.; and interact with international students in student exchange programs.
Student research activities in the Faculty of Literature are also very vibrant. Every month, Literature students participate in scientific seminars to exchange ideas on important academic issues, introduce new research projects, and new literary works…
According to Nguyen Viet Ha, a first-year Literature student, Literature students have many opportunities to receive scholarships from the university as well as from domestic and international scholarship funds. From the 2022-2023 academic year, outstanding Literature students will receive the Talent Nurturing Scholarship for basic science majors, which includes: tuition fee waiver, free dormitory accommodation, priority participation in scientific research and scientist incubation programs, priority consideration for other scholarships, and a minimum living allowance of 2 million VND per month.
