11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
- This dissertation is one of the first in-depth studies on journalism regarding the reform and modernization of customs in Vietnam, relevant and necessary in the context of the Government and ministries strengthening reforms and innovations in management activities to meet the goal of both better serving the needs of society and improving the efficiency of the national administration in the current period of development and international integration.
- The dissertation utilizes a combination of specialized and interdisciplinary research methods from journalism, media, and mass media sociology, including six main methods: Documentary research; Content analysis; Sociological survey using questionnaires; In-depth interviews; Case studies; and Comparative studies. Simultaneously, the dissertation applies the theories of "Agenda Setting," "Framing," and "Usage and Satisfaction" to conduct the research.
- The dissertation topic has a novel research scope covering six media outlets in Vietnam (two types: print and online), focusing on a specific and systematic study and evaluation of the current state of media information, identifying successes and limitations, and the causes of these successes and limitations, when reflecting on the reform and modernization of Vietnam's Customs.
- The thesis conducted public surveys using questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and case studies to assess the role and impact of the press on the reform and modernization of Vietnam's Customs.
- The data, research results, and conclusions do not overlap with dissertations defended domestically or internationally; nor do they overlap with scientific works by other authors published domestically or internationally.
- This thesis analyzes several issues and proposes necessary solutions to enhance the role, quality, and effectiveness of the press in the reform and modernization of Vietnam's Customs, in line with the development trends of modern journalism, the reform and innovation trends of Customs worldwide, and to meet the rapid development of international trade between Vietnam and other countries.
12. Practical applications:
- This dissertation is a useful reference document for policymakers, leaders, media managers, journalists, state administrative agencies, the Customs sector, researchers, and lecturers at journalism and media training and research institutions.
- This thesis provides state management agencies, including the Customs sector, with a scientific basis to evaluate the results of communication processes, identify successes and limitations of the press, and the causes of these successes and limitations. This will enhance the role of the press to better serve public needs while promoting innovation, reform, and modernization within state management agencies, ultimately serving the interests of citizens, businesses, and the community.
- For media organizations, this thesis serves as a reference document for Vietnamese media outlets to apply in practice when developing information plans about the activities of state management agencies, aiming to affirm and enhance their role in participating in resolving current socio-economic issues.
13. Future research directions:
Based on the research results of this dissertation, further research directions for the doctoral candidate can be opened to supplement and refine the research findings of this thesis. The planned future research directions include:
- Expand the survey of press information across various media platforms, including radio and television; broaden the survey of the public, including customs officials and relevant state agencies, businesses, and citizens in all areas with international trade activities, to conduct a thorough assessment of the role and effectiveness of communication regarding Vietnam's customs modernization and reform.
- Expand research on the role and impact of communication on social media platforms in customs modernization and reform. This is because the research results of the thesis also show that social media is favored by the public for accessing information. Customs agencies worldwide are currently focusing on communication on social media platforms.
- To expand research and evaluation of media coverage of public activities and policies that closely impact the rights and interests of the community, in order to draw theoretical and practical lessons for state administrative agencies in general and the Customs sector in particular.

11. Summary of new results of the thesis:
- The thesis is one of the first works of in-depth journalism research on the issue of Customs reform and modernization in Vietnam, appropriate and necessary in the context of the Government and ministries strengthening reform for the management activities to meet the goal of both better serving the needs of society and improving the effective capacity of the national administration in the current period of development and international integration.
- The thesis uses a combination of specialized and interdisciplinary research methods of journalism and media, sociology of mass communication, including 06 main methods as follows: Document research method; Content analysis method; Method of sociological survey by questionnaire; In-depth interview method; Case study method; and Comparative method. At the same time, the thesis uses the “Agenda Setting Theory”, the “Framework Theory” and the “Use and Gratification Theory” to conduct the research.
- The thesis title has a new survey scope for 6 press agencies in Vietnam, including print and online newspapers. structured, the thesis focuses on specific and comprehensive research and assessment of the current state of press information, drawing out successes and limitations and the causes of the successes and the limitations of the press when reflecting on the issue of reform and modernization of Vietnam Customs.
- The thesis conducts a public survey by questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and case study to evaluate the role and impact of the press on the issue of reform and modernization of Vietnam Customs.
- Research data and results and conclusions neither overlap with defending theses at home and abroad; nor overlap with scientific works of other authors published domestically and internationally.
- The thesis analyzes a number of raised issues, however necessary solutions to improve the role, quality, and effectiveness of the press impact on the reform and modernization of Vietnam Customs, meeting the development trend of modern journalism, the reform trend of Customs administration around the world, as well as the rapid development of international trade activities between Vietnam and the above countries in the world.
12. Practical applicability:
- The thesis is a useful reference for inspiring, leaders, press managers, journalists, State administrative agencies, Customs industry, researchers, and lecturers at journalism and communications training and research facilities.
- The thesis helps State management agencies, including the Customs sector, have more scientific basis to evaluate the results of the communication process, drawing out the successes and limitations of the press and the causes of the successes and limitations, thereby enhancing the role of the press to both better serve the needs of the public and boost the reform and modernization of State management agencies towards serving the benefits of people, businesses and social communities.
For press agencies, the thesis is a reference document for press and media agencies in Vietnam to apply in practice in building communication plans on the activities of state management agencies, to affirm and enhance their role in participating in solving current socio-economic issues.
13. Future research directions:
From the research results of the thesis title, it is possible to open up the following research directions for the PhD student to supplement and further improve the research results of this title. Expected future research directions as follows:
- Expand press information surveys in all types of radio and television; expand the survey to the public including Customs officials and relevant State agencies, businesses, and people in all areas with international trade activities to deeply assess the role and effective communication on Vietnam's Customs modernization and reform.
- Expand research on the role and impact of media on social networking platforms on Customs reform and modernization. Because the research results of the thesis also show that social media is favored by the public when accessing information. Customs administrations around the world today also focus on communication on social platforms.
- Expand research and evaluation of the media to activities and public policies that have impact on the rights and interests of the community in order to draw theoretical and practical experiences for State administrative agencies and the Customs sector.
