In general: Vietnamese novels in the early 21st century witnessed a bumper crop of authors in both quantity and quality of works, creating a very diverse picture of Vietnamese novels in the early 21st century with many different creative personalities, explaining many thorny issues of literary life and social life in the 21st century.
About the character type system: Characters in Vietnamese novels in the early 21st century are diverse in types, vivid in life, accurately representing the stories of life, on the flow of reality, sometimes peaceful, sometimes stormy.
The system of character types in Vietnamese novels in the early 21st century was created by writers with great effort. These are very strange character types compared to traditional concepts. Characters are classified based on the following perspectives: i) From the typological structure and ii) From the narrative method of the genre.
Accordingly, there are character types including: 1) According to the type structure including: Anonymous character; Symbolic character; "Mental disturbance" character; 2) According to the genre structure including: Historical character; Existential character and Homosexual character.
Regarding the method of expression: The method of expression in building the system of character types has many unique creative points, showing the talent and personality of each writer on the journey of innovating the way of writing and expressing their characters. The main methods of expression in building novel characters in the early 21st century include 2: 1) Transitioning characters in a modern direction and 2) Using postmodern techniques. In both methods in the works, there is also an interweaving, that is, there are no clear boundaries between the two methods. In the same work, authors can simultaneously use interweaving methods to best shape their brainchildren. This creates diversity and creativity in the choice of techniques to express characters of writers. Within the scope of the thesis, we choose to distinguish each method more clearly to see the new features in the artistic expression method of Vietnamese novels in the early 21st century.
12. Further research directions: We continue to pursue the research direction of contemporary Vietnamese novels of the 21st century in the next stages to both inherit the current research results and see the strong changes of Vietnamese novels in this century.
