This dissertation is the first specialized work to examine the literary memoirs of Vietnamese writers from 1986 to the present from the perspective of artistic thought. The dissertation has:

- To offer a unique perspective on artistic thinking within the memoir genre, a genre with distinct characteristics compared to others, particularly its almost direct connection to the historical context, ideology, artistic consciousness, gender factors, etc.

- To outline, in a general and essential way, the development process of Vietnamese literary memoirs throughout its historical formation and development, focusing on the period from 1986 to the present.

- To identify the characteristics of artistic thinking in Vietnamese literary memoirs from 1986 to the present, viewed from different perspectives: from "conceptual codes" and artistic imagery to narrative methods.

- Contributing to the exploration and identification of the strengths and weaknesses in content and artistic aspects of Vietnamese literary memoirs from 1986 to the present, serving as a tool to guide the intellectual and aesthetic education of contemporary literary readers.

The thesis is the first project focusing on studying artistic thought presented in literary memoirs written by Vietnamese writers in the period from 1986 up to present. The thesis does the following:

- Giving out a nuanced conception of “artistic thought in memoirs”, a literary genre which has unique characteristics in comparison to other ones, especially in terms of its close relationship with contemporary social and ideological context, artistic awareness, gender consciousness, so forth and so on.

- Sketching out the movement of Vietnamese literary memoirs in its long history, especially in the period from 1986 up to now.

- Pointing out some characteristics of “artistic thought of Vietnamese literary memoirs from 1986 up to now” on three aspects: conceptual code of literary memoirs, artistic figures, and artistic methods.

- Contributing to exploring and identifying the advantages and disadvantages in the content and form of Vietnamese literary memoirs from 1986 up to now, so that the readers can nowadays have a good understanding and aesthetic awareness to help read them well.
