The document of “大 悲 心 陀 羅 尼 靈 咒Great Compassion Heart Dharani Mantra”(printing chronology of 18th Tu Duc - 1866), its carved board is kept in Dia Linh pagoda, Tay Ho ward (now it is at 9, Dang Thai Mai, Quang An, Tay Ho, Ha Noi city) is a valuable document containing a lot of information that contributes the understanding of“Great Compassion Dharani”in Vietnam, especially, with the participation of a Confucian in the editing and reading the Chinese characters (zhuyin) in “Great Compassion Mantra”- Quan Te Tuu Quoc Tu Giam, his name was Pham (Pham Dinh Ho).
This research introduced to readers the most basic information about the collection of mantras of the text group in “大 悲 心 陀 羅 尼 靈 咒 -Great Compassion Heart Dharani Mantra”(AC.469) in Han Nom bookstores of Han Nom Research Institute in term of literature, structure of the paper, zhuyin method for 大 悲 心 陀 羅 尼Great Compassion Heart Dharani.
Furthermore, this research extends the knowledge from Pham Dinh Ho's research by studying zhuyin method for Mandarin version ofGreat Compassion Mantra-大悲心陀羅尼靈咒 -Great Compassion Heart Dharani Mantrain Vietnam. This research contributed to clarifying the circulation of Great Compassion in Vietnam in order to have more foundations for studies, which related to Great Compassion Mantra, Tantric Buddhism, as well as Buddhism in the ideological and spiritual life of Vietnamese.
Moreover, this research provides additional information about Pham Dinh Ho (1768-1839) in term of philological activities (zhuyin for Great Compassion Mantra in Mandarin), as well as his interest in Buddhism, and the popularity of the zhuyin, which was completed by himself.
Last, this research referred to the collective nature of the “般若心經註釋Heart Sutra, annotated in common symbol AC.469 in the Han Nom bookstores of Han Nom Research Institute.
