Professor Dr. Roni Katzir is a highly influential professor of computational linguistics and cognitive linguistics. He is known for his significant contributions to the fields of theoretical linguistics, computational linguistics, and artificial intelligence.
He is currently the Dean of the School of Philosophy, Linguistics and Science Studies at Tel Aviv University, Israel, and the Executive Director of the Computational Linguistics Lab at Tel Aviv University.
Katzir received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and taught at Cornell University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining Tel Aviv University.
He has received numerous international research awards, including the Bessel Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2025) – one of Germany's most prestigious international research awards, given to outstanding foreign scientists to undertake a self-selected research project at a German scientific institution and to expand international collaboration. He has presented numerous times on topics in computational linguistics and machine learning to the general public, and has also participated in more academic talks at interdisciplinary conferences.
