University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU: Developing scientific and technological potential is a strategic orientation

In January 2023, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continued to recognize 01 Key Research Center and 04 Strong Research Groups of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH) as Strong Research Groups at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi level. This is VNU's recognition and investment in the scientific and technological research activities of VNU-USSH - a leading university in training high-quality, highly qualified human resources.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has the mission of taking the lead in training high-quality, highly qualified human resources; researching, creating and disseminating knowledge of Social Sciences and Humanities, serving the cause of national construction and defense and international integration. The construction and development of strong research groups is identified as both a method and a goal for VNU-USSH to develop scientific and technological potential, enhance the ability to carry out cutting-edge research and form scientific schools and excellent research centers. Research groups create the driving force to increase scientific and technological values, competitive factors both nationally and internationally, promoting the development of Faculties/Institutes/Centers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU in a research-oriented manner.
With the strategic goal of high-quality scientific research serving the cause of national construction, development and protection, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Hanoi, identifies a number of priority research directions that are the strengths of the University and are closely linked to Vietnam's development requirements regarding the historical traditions, culture, society, country and people of Vietnam; Vietnam's specific development model and path; Vietnam's role and position in regional and international relations; national sovereignty and security, focusing on research on borders, islands, territorial processes, etc.
Key research centers and strong research groups at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi level of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities continue to be recognized in 2023, including:
1. Key Research Center for applied research orientation in the period 2023 - 2028:Institute of Policy and Management
2. Strong Research Team:Vietnamese Politics, Rule of Law and Religion
3. Strong Research Team:Sea and Asian Trade
4. Strong Research Group: Social Work and Social Security

The Strong Research Group at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi is defined as a research group capable of implementing national or international science and technology tasks, aiming at key national science and technology products, capable of orienting and leading the science and technology market through advanced research directions or science and technology products with great impact in practice or in science, capable of acting as a pillar towards forming a research school and training human resources as a science and technology organization in units under Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Decision No. 3273/QD-VNU on promulgating guidelines for development and preferential treatment for strong research groups at Vietnam National University, Hanoi
The purpose of developing a strong research group is to (1) form key science and technology products bearing the VNU brand, participating in solving urgent and important problems of society and the country; (2) serve as a basis for investing in developing key and cutting-edge scientific research directions; (3) contribute to developing an innovation ecosystem, training high-quality human resources and implementing the current VNU Science and Technology Strategy.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities considers maintaining and continuously improving the quality of training, training a team of highly qualified scientific staff with a spirit of autonomy and creativity in teaching and scientific research as a key task and at the same time a "strategic solution" in the long-term development orientation.
The development of strong research groups contributes to the implementation of the strategic goal of developing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the direction of a research university, continuing to affirm its leading position in research and training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, striving to bring the school into the top 150 universities in Asia by 2025, into the top 100 universities in the continent by 2035 and on par with advanced universities (in the top 500) in the world.
