Among them, Associate Professor Tran Xuan Bach from Hanoi Medical University is the only Vietnamese scientist in the top 10 (ranked 3rd) in the field of Community Medicine. Tran Xuan Bach became the youngest Associate Professor in Vietnam at the age of 32 in 2016. He has over 300 articles published in highly regarded international health science journals.
Associate Professor Dr. Le Hoang Son, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, ranked 190th, is known as a talented young scientist in the field of computer science with highly applied research works that have been well-received by technology companies both domestically and internationally. Many of his research has practical applications, such as 3D GIS systems in telecommunications network infrastructure design, the development of a blood donation application on Android, and a land management application. Notably, more than half of his research has been applied in leading countries in science and technology such as the United States, Italy, and Germany. Associate Professor Son has published over 180 papers in foreign journals listed in the ISI database. He has also been among the top 10,000 outstanding scientists in the world for four consecutive years: 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Dr. Phung Van Phuc, from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, is ranked 958th in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. Associate Professor Phuc is a familiar Vietnamese scientist in world rankings, having been included in the list of 100,000 influential scientists for four consecutive years. the best in the world.
35 Vietnamese people are among the world's most influential scientists.
In 2022, the number of Vietnamese scientists included in the list was...listThe list of "100,000 most influential scientists" includes 35, an increase of 6 from the previous year. They were selected based on several criteria, including the total number of research citations. The ranking was compiled by a team of scientists led by Professor John P.A. Ioannidis of Stanford University (USA), and is based on data from the Scopus database.
Among the top 10,000 scientists in the world, Vietnam has two scientists: Associate Professor Dr. Le Hoang Son and Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). Both scientists have consistently ranked in the top 4 for consecutive years: 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

This year's list includes many new faces, such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Trung (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, ranked 47,614), Dr. Dao Van Duong (Phenikaa University, ranked 61,711), Dr. Vuong Quan Hoang (Phenikaa University, ranked 61,452), and Dr. Chu Dinh Toi (International School, Vietnam National University Hanoi, ranked 66,906).
World's most talented young scientist honored by UNESCO.
Associate Professor Dr. Ho Thi Thanh Van (42 years old), along with 14 outstanding young female scientists representing five continents, received the 2022 World Young Scientist Award. This prestigious award is part of the program "For the Advancement of Women in Science," initiated by the L'Oréal Foundation and UNESCO, honoring female scientists in the fields of life sciences, environment, physics, mathematics, and computer science.

Associate Professor Van has made outstanding contributions to the field of fuel cells. His work has replaced platinum in fuel cells, reducing costs while increasing durability. The research is considered to optimize fuel cell operation, improving efficiency and enabling sustainable hydrogen production, avoiding the burning of fossil fuels and reducing carbon emissions.
She has published 90 articles in domestic and international journals and received numerous prestigious national and international science and technology awards. In 2019, Associate Professor Van received the Outstanding Female Scientist of Vietnam award. In 2020, she was ranked among the top 23/100 outstanding scientists in Asia by Asian Scientist magazine. Currently, she holds the position of lecturer and Head of the Science and Technology and External Relations Department at the University of Natural Resources and Environment, Ho Chi Minh City.
The first Vietnamese scientist to receive the Korean Astronomy Award.
In 2022, Associate Professor Hoang Chi Thiem (43 years old) became the first Vietnamese person to receive the award from the Korean Astronomical Society for the most outstanding research achievements in the past 10 years. This award honors a scientist (working in Korea) with outstanding research achievements demonstrated through highly significant research works recognized by the international community.

Associate Professor Thiêm is a senior research fellow at the Korea Aerospace Science Institute (KASI) and an associate professor at Korea University of Science and Technology. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, in 2012, and subsequently received a postdoctoral research award from the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics of Canada and the Humboldt Foundation (Germany). His main research focus is on dust and magnetic fields in the universe, aiming to elucidate the origins of stars, planets, and the existence of life in the universe.
Professor Abraham (Avi) Loeb, an astrophysicist at Harvard University (USA), once assessed that Associate Professor Thiem was the first to demonstrate the serious damage to high-speed spacecraft caused by collisions with gas and dust in the interstellar medium, and also proposed an optimal design to protect spacecraft. In addition to his work on the orientation of dust particles in space, he also conducted pioneering theoretical calculations for interstellar travel using radiation pressure. This is a new but promising research direction for the future.
Over the past year, Associate Professor Thiem, along with two other scientists, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hien (NASA, USA, group leader) and Dr. Nguyen Luong Quang (American University, Paris, France), established the Astrophysics Group (SAGI) with the aim of contributing to the development of astrophysics in Vietnam. The group operates under the management of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Scientific and Educational Research (IFIRSE), affiliated with ICISE (Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh), where Professor Tran Thanh Van is the leader, with the aspiration to become a common home for scientists.
The only Vietnamese person to receive the Royal Airline Association Award.
Dr. Nguyen Huyen Duc (27 years old), from the University of Bristol (UK), is one of 10 individuals honored in the Young Persons' Achievement Award category – an achievement award for young people – who have made exceptional contributions to the aerospace field in 2022. Dr. Duc is the only Vietnamese person to be honored on this list.

Dr. Duc received his MEng (Engineering degree) in 2019 and successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in aerospace engineering at the University of Bristol in 2021. He continues to hold research and teaching positions at the university to this day and has published 8 articles in Q1 scientific journals (all as the lead author) and 10 conference papers.
Dr. Duc's main research focus is aircraft dynamics and automatic control in the production of composite materials used in the aerospace industry. He is particularly interested in the branching method and the application of dynamic systems to solve aerospace problems.

Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh of University College London (UCL) is one of three scientists to win the 2022 Interdisciplinary Prize, recognizing her outstanding contributions to research and innovation. Her interdisciplinary contributions to fundamental research in chemical synthesis, magnetic nanomaterials, and plasmonics for biomedical applications have the potential to directly benefit cancer patients by improving their lifespan.
Professor Kim Thanh graduated with a degree in chemistry from Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 1992. She was appointed professor at University College London (UCL) in 2013 and leads an advanced interdisciplinary research group on the design and synthesis of nanomaterials for biomedical applications. In 2019, Professor Thanh received the Rosalind Franklin Medal for her significant achievements in the application of nanomaterials in biomedicine.
