Remembering teacher Le Mau Han

A lifelong dedication to history

Associate Professor, People's Teacher Le Mau Han was born on October 1, 1932, in Bich La Dong village (Trieu Dong commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri), the same village as General Secretary Le Duan. From Bich La Dong village with hot wind and white sand, after the Geneva Agreement (July 1954), he gathered in the North and studied at the History Department, the newly established Hanoi General University. In August 1959, Associate Professor Le Mau Han, along with Professors Phan Dai Doan, Vu Duong Ninh, Vu Van Ban... were the first graduates retained to supplement the teaching staff of Hanoi General University. Associate Professor Le Mau Han, together with the History Department, overcame the arduous years of the resistance war against the US to save the country to complete the training and research tasks. After the country was reunified, Associate Professor Le Mau Han was appointed as Head of the History Department. He also held the position of Dean for the longest period in the history of the Faculty of History (1976 - 1990).

The specialized field that Associate Professor Le Mau Han devoted his entire life to researching and teaching to many generations of students was the modern historical issues of the nation, the Vietnamese revolution, and the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He participated in compiling many textbooks and historical works. Associate Professor Le Mau Han's research has made an important contribution to the development of the History Department of the Communist Party of Vietnam in particular, the History Department and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general. The spirit and method of respecting objective historical truth and correctly evaluating historical truth have made his works and articles considered by colleagues and generations of students as models of serious scientific spirit when approaching and researching the history of the Communist Party of Vietnam and modern history of Vietnam.

When mentioning the research on Ho Chi Minh's career and ideology, it is impossible not to mention Associate Professor Le Mau Han as a leading expert. Reading the articles and books written by Associate Professor Le Mau Han about Ho Chi Minh, one can see his affection for a great man - the subject of his research. It is not too much to say that he was "fascinated by Ho Chi Minh" and through his profound interpretations of Ho Chi Minh's ideology of "Independence, Freedom - National Liberation", one can see a sharp historical thinking to locate issues and events, while analyzing and highlighting the position and role of Ho Chi Minh's ideology with the Vietnamese revolution in the historical stages of the revolution and in the future development of the country.
