- Hello Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong! Over the past two days, public opinion has been particularly interested in the benchmark score for group C00 to enter the school, specifically the Journalism major which is up to 29.90 points. In your opinion, what are the reasons for such a high benchmark score?
In my opinion, first of all, these are hot majors in recent years that many candidates have registered for, so the standard score is quite high. In addition to Journalism, which takes 29.90 points, there are other majors such as Oriental Studies (29.95 points); Korean Studies (29.95 points); Management Science (29 points); Public Relations (29.95 points)...
Second, in general, the admission score has also increased slightly compared to previous years.
Third, the high benchmark scores show that candidates have carefully considered and chosen a trustworthy and quality training institution. The school has made great efforts to increasingly improve and enhance the training program.
Fourth, the score distribution this year is higher. Literature scores are more than 43% excellent, History scores are also higher than last year, so the base score is higher. And fifth, the method of considering high school graduation exam scores is only 1 of 5 methods of admission to the school.
This year, the school has 5 admission methods: Direct admission and priority admission according to the current admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (including ethnic minority and foreign university preparatory students); Direct admission and priority admission according to specific regulations and admission instructions of Hanoi National University; Admission based on the results of the 2022 Competency Assessment Exam (HSA) organized by Hanoi National University; Admission based on international certificates and Admission based on the results of the 2022 High School Graduation Exam.
In method 5 of considering high school graduation exam scores, there are many combinations such as A01; C00; D01, D04; D78; D83. Therefore, block C00 is one of many admission branches. The school calculates scores from top to bottom so it chooses candidates with the best training quality.
- Public opinion is that candidates who are admitted with a high standard score that is almost absolutely difficult to achieve, so candidates are given many priority points, causing injustice to candidates who do not receive extra points. What is your opinion on this issue?
- For Journalism, this year, 9 candidates were admitted to the C00 block out of 55 targets, the remaining 46 were admitted to other groups or by other admission methods. However, candidates must confirm their registration with the Ministry and then enroll to complete the process. All candidates are given priority points according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training from 0.25 to 2.75 depending on the region. Students in the city or other regions are given points if they meet the standard score to be admitted. Students in the city have the advantage of studying Foreign Languages, so they can choose admission blocks related to foreign languages or other admission methods such as transcripts, IELTS certificates. Depending on the ability and strengths of the candidates, suitable methods can be found.
- The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the prestigious and quality institutions in training Journalism in the country. In your opinion, what are the advantages of the school in training Journalism, especially in the current digital age?
The school's Faculty of Journalism trains all types of journalism today: Print - Electronic Newspaper; Radio - Television. Starting from 2008-2009, the school received a 60 billion VND project to invest in building facilities to serve the journalism and media industry. The school has a virtual studio, a real studio, an editing room, a system of equipment for multimedia communications... equivalent to a miniature newsroom.
More than 40% of the program's training time is spent practicing in the computer lab, helping students avoid confusion when they graduate and work in editorial offices. This is also the reason why this industry is attractive in every admission season. In the coming time, the school will invest more in specialized courses taught in foreign languages. About 10% of the standard program is taught in English. The High-Quality Program has more than 20% of specialized courses taught in English, not including regular English courses.
In the coming time, the school will invest more in specialized courses taught in foreign languages. About 10% of the standard program is taught in English. The High Quality Program accounts for more than 20% of specialized courses, not to mention the regular Foreign Language program.
The school has also updated modern courses to meet the development trends of world journalism and market needs. The teaching staff is qualified. The program is upgraded, specialized, and trained closest to journalism activities in newsrooms.
With such advanced training programs, students entering the school will have better learning opportunities. However, the program with many exercises and good foundation means that students have to try harder and have to have serious investment in studying.
Students of the Institute of Journalism and Communication (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) work in the school's multimedia room.
- So, if students are admitted to the school through many different methods, is there uniformity in the learning process, madam?
Admission methods are based on the ability of each candidate. Training in the school will be individualized. Those who have a strong ability will be promoted. For example, those who have good writing ability will pursue print journalism. Those who have good writing ability and technology ability will pursue electronic journalism. Those who have good performance ability and appearance will tend to become television editors. The school welcomes excellent students from each group and method and will commit to maximum investment so that students graduate with the best results.
- In your opinion, what are the job opportunities for Journalism students in the current context?
Every year, the school compiles statistics on the employment rate of graduates. Journalism and media is one of the five factors for sustainable social development, along with raw materials, capital, human resources, and technology. There are many professions that require the knowledge and skills of those trained in journalism and media, not just journalism. Therefore, job opportunities are very open. According to school statistics, the rate of graduates working for press, media agencies, businesses, and organizations from the Government to non-Government accounts for more than 90%.
