Entrance exam for 10th grade specialized classes in Social Sciences and Humanities: The exam is highly differentiated, selecting outstanding candidates.

New features in the 2024 admissions process for specialized high school programs in Social Sciences and Humanities.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chair of the Admissions Council for the 10th grade specialized high school for Social Sciences and Humanities, stated that this year 1,509 candidates registered to take the entrance exam. Of these, the Literature specialized class had the highest number of applicants with 928 candidates. The History and Geography specialized classes had 314 and 267 applications respectively. The university is recruiting 140 students for the 10th grade specialized classes, with 70 for Literature, 35 for History, and 35 for Geography. A total of 1,364 candidates participated in the exam.

A new feature in the 2024 10th grade entrance exam compared to previous years is that candidates will only take a 150-minute essay exam in their specialized subject. For the qualifying subjects, the school will consider applications based on the following criteria: Candidates must have an average annual score of 7.0 or higher in Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language for each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and an average first semester score of 7.0 or higher in Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language for the 9th grade, according to the general education program of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam. Exceptional cases will be considered and decided by the Admissions Council.
In case multiple candidates have the same score at the end of the list, priority admission will be based on the following conditions: (1) Winning a prize in the provincial/city-level excellent student competition at the junior high school level in the subject the candidate is taking the specialized exam in (if there are multiple candidates winning prizes at the end of the list, the prize will be considered from highest to lowest). (2) Having an international English certificate valid for 2 years from the deadline for submitting application forms. IELTS Academic (IELTS Academic) with a minimum score of 4.5 or higher, TOEFL ITP with a minimum score of 460 or higher, TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 45 or higher will be considered from highest to lowest. Note: Candidates who have not yet submitted their Certificate of Award in the excellent student competition or foreign language certificate should send it to the Training Department between June 3rd and 7th, 2024.
"The school is innovating its admissions methods to ensure fairness, objectivity, efficiency, and quality, selecting the most deserving candidates while reducing pressure on candidates and parents," Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong emphasized.
The examination board comprises leading experts in the social sciences and humanities, and the exam is highly selective, aiming to choose the most outstanding candidates.
Emerging excitedly from the exam room, Nguyen Phuong Giang, a student from Doan Thi Diem Secondary School in Hanoi, said that this year's Literature exam was quite novel and exciting for the candidates. Phuong Giang shared that she chose to apply to the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities because it offers a dynamic learning environment with many useful activities for students. Furthermore, the school has many scholarship and support policies to help students develop their individual abilities.

The examination process was organized safely, with discipline, and fairly.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has made thorough preparations for the entrance exam to the specialized high school, ensuring that the exam is conducted seriously, fairly, objectively, and safely for the candidates. More than 230 staff, lecturers, and volunteer students have been mobilized to participate in the organization of the exam.
Right from the entrance to the examination area, the school deployed student volunteers to manage traffic flow and guide and encourage candidates and parents. The signage system, examination rooms, examination board rooms, and waiting areas for parents were all meticulously arranged to ensure safety and convenience for the examination process.

From 6 am, volunteers participated in directing traffic and guiding candidates and parents. Before entering the examination area, candidates were given detailed instructions on the exam regulations by volunteers.   Tables and diagrams are provided for easy reference by candidates and parents. The school has prepared air-conditioned waiting rooms for parents bringing their children to the entrance exam for the Specialized High School for Social Sciences and Humanities.
