Enhancing cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Thammasat University (Thailand)

The focus of the meeting was the preparation for the International Scientific Conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand. Details regarding the progress of paper submission, editing, publication, and conference facilities were specifically assessed by both sides. This large-scale event will be jointly organized by two units of Thammasat University (Faculty of Liberal Arts, Institute of East Asian Studies) and four units of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Faculty of Linguistics and Vietnamese Studies, Faculty of Anthropology and Religious Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, and Faculty of Politics and International Studies).

Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son and the delegation held discussions with representatives from Thammasat University.

Representatives from Thammasat University (Thailand), including Dr. Sutida Wimuttikosol (Deputy Head of the Faculty of Liberal Arts), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaiwat Meesanthan (Director of the Institute of East Asian Studies), and Dr. Morragotwong Phumplab (Lecturer in the Faculty of Liberal Arts), held an in-depth discussion with the delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

In addition, the two universities have reached an agreement on a plan to organize the next conference at VNU-USSH. This will be a forum for joint discussions revolving around key research topics including Vietnamese Studies, Thai Studies, community-based tourism models, and population mobility issues in Southeast Asia.

To promote academic exchange and improve the quality of education, both sides agreed to implement a faculty exchange program. The partner institution will support the teaching of Thai to a group of students aspiring to become general education teachers, and will also send experts to participate in direct teaching (onsite and offline) in English. Simultaneously, Summer Camps for students from both universities and a series of in-depth academic lectures on Vietnamese Studies and Thai Studies will be regularly organized. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has extended an invitation to Thammasat University to collaborate on a channel for teaching Vietnamese language and culture to overseas Vietnamese, and to expand cooperation on joint scientific research projects.

The working session between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Thammasat University concluded successfully with high consensus, opening up many prospects for extensive cooperation. Leaders from both sides agreed to continue efforts to further develop existing cooperation potential. Strengthening academic exchanges, sharing resources, and jointly organizing large-scale events – such as the International Scientific Conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand – is expected to bring practical value. Through this, the two institutions will be closely connected and their positions and prestige on the regional and international higher education map will be continuously enhanced.
