The seminar was honored to have Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Cao Dam (former founding Director of the Institute for Strategy and Policy Management of Science and Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology), also former Director of the Center for Policy Research and Analysis (predecessor of the Institute of Policy and Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities) attend and share some differences between graduation thesis, master's thesis and doctoral thesis from the perspective of scientific research methods.
In his sharing, Mr. Vu Cao Dam emphasized: he highly welcomes the initiative of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Management of the Faculty of Science and Management to organize this scientific seminar. Because in reality, many PhD students, when conducting their research, still cannot distinguish what is different and what is required more than a master's thesis from a methodological perspective. That is why sometimes there is a lot of confusion and the quality of the thesis is not good. Each field of science has its own research methods, but the logical structure is the same, including: asking research questions, scientific arguments, arguments to prove the arguments and methods to find information. However, the level of requirements in theses, dissertations and dissertations will be different and the doctoral thesis is the most complete in terms of methodology. In my opinion, a doctoral thesis, in addition to identifying correct and valuable research questions, needs to pose hypotheses to find evidence (this is not required in a graduation thesis or master's thesis).
After the sharing of Mr. Vu Cao Dam, many staff members who are currently teaching Scientific Research Methods at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and some other universities, as well as graduate students and PhD students, asked questions, commented, and discussed very enthusiastically, sharing their teaching experiences around the topic of the Seminar. Many questions and concerns about whether it is necessary to set up a hypothesis for a thesis or dissertation when there are already research questions?, or how to handle the case where after proving, the initial hypothesis is wrong? were discussed and very specific suggestions were given.
Concluding the Seminar, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong sincerely thanked Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Cao Dam for his support in the training and scientific research activities of the Faculty of Management Science in particular and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general. His sharing is really useful for graduate students, PhD students studying at the school as well as teaching staff on scientific research methods. Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong also said: the organization of Seminars and scientific activities in the coming time will be of interest to the Department as well as the Faculty of Management Science, promoting, creating conditions for students, trainees, PhD students to participate more in the academic activities of the Faculty and the school, in order to improve the quality of training and scientific research.
At the end of the seminar, on behalf of the staff, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Management Science and the Department of Management Science, Technology and Innovation, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong presented flowers and took souvenir photos with Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Cao Dam.
