Opening Ceremony of the Science Summer Camp “Ecological-Social Transformation and Youth: From Idea to Action” – SETY CAMP 2022

On the morning of August 27, 2022, the opening ceremony of the science summer camp “Ecological-Social Transformation and Youth: From Idea to Action” – SETY CAMP 2022 took place at Hoa Lu Hotel, Ninh Binh.
SETY Summer Camp 2022 is an activity within the framework of the project “Ecological-Social Transformation and Youth: From Idea to Action” signed between the Institute and the RLS SEA Foundation in 2022.
Attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Director of the Institute of Policy and Management); Mr. Philip Degenhartd (Regional Director of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation for Southeast Asia - Hanoi representative office); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu (Chairperson of the Management Board and Director of the VNU Development Fund, Vice President of the VNU Scientists Club); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luu Thi Minh Ngoc (Vice Director of the Institute of Business Administration, University of Economics, VNU); Assoc. Prof. Dang Thi Anh Tuyet (Deputy Director of the Science Management Department, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics),... and 20 female students from universities, research institutes, and research centers in Hanoi.
SETY Camp is organized by the Institute for Policy and Management (IPAM) of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (Federal Republic of Germany) Southeast Asia (RLS SEA). This is the first time a summer camp has been organized exclusively for female participants, all of whom are dynamic young women passionate about research and project activities related to development. This SETY summer camp is a camp of ideas and action, contributing to promoting the role of women in research and projects on socio-ecological transformation in Vietnam in the near future.
In his opening remarks at the summer camp, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong stated that from the initial sharing of the idea and receiving support from Mr. Philip Degenhartd and the RLS SEA Foundation in signing the project agreement, the project has built a dedicated website for the summer camp activities. The fanpage communication activities have spread the SETY spirit to over 1000 visitors, with 2344 interactions. Information about the summer camp has also been disseminated to lecturers, students, and trainees of VNU by VSL (Vietnam National University, Hanoi Scientists Club) and the VNU Scholarship channel. The SETY journey has many more prospects and can continue with many more meaningful and practical activities for Vietnamese youth.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Director of IPAM) delivered the opening speech at the SETY Summer Camp.
Also at the SETY summer camp, Mr. Philip Degenhardt, Director of the RLS Foundation for Southeast Asia, expressed his interest and support, stating that the Foundation will continue to assist IPAM in organizing SETY Camp in the coming years to further expand the project's results.

During the six-day summer camp, participants will be equipped with essential skills for young scientists conducting research; they will learn, exchange, and discuss gender, the environment, and development. They will also gain knowledge related to research methods on socio-ecological transition; feminist approaches in socio-ecological transition research; and nature-based development. In addition, the young people will experience an eco-friendly lifestyle at a cooperative producing products from local medicinal plants.
