As the year 2010 draws to a close and we prepare to enter the new year 2011, the University's website reviews the outstanding events of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2010.
1. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities celebrates its 65-year tradition by receiving the Ho Chi Minh Order.
On November 17th, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to celebrate its 65th anniversary and receive the Ho Chi Minh Order – a prestigious award from the State recognizing and commending the achievements the University has made during the period of reform.

This is an honor and a source of pride for generations of faculty, staff, students, and trainees of the school, demonstrating a worthy continuation of 65 years of tradition in building and developing the school, which has always been at the forefront of education and training high-quality human resources to serve the cause of national construction and development.
2. Ten educators received the titles of People's Teacher and Excellent Teacher, and eleven lecturers were awarded the titles of Professor and Associate Professor.
On November 9, 2010, President Nguyen Minh Triet signed a decision awarding the titles of "Outstanding Teacher" and "People's Teacher" to 1094 teachers nationwide who have made contributions to the nation's education. In this 11th awarding ceremony, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities had 4 teachers awarded the title of People's Teacher and 6 teachers awarded the title of Outstanding Teacher.

In 2010, the university also had 11 more lecturers awarded the titles of Professor and Associate Professor. Among them, Professor Nguyen Van Hiep (Faculty of Linguistics) was one of the two youngest professors to be recognized with the title at the age of 46.
3. The 26th Party Congress of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, term 2010-2015
With the action slogan "Effective innovation and comprehensive development," the 26th Party Congress of the University, for the term 2010-2015, issued many important resolutions, including striving to be ranked among the top 400 universities in Asia by 2015.

With the high confidence of all delegates, Comrade Nguyen Van Khanh continues to hold the position of Secretary of the Party Committee; Comrade Nguyen Kim Son holds the position of Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; and Comrade Dang Xuan Khang holds the position of Chairman of the Party Committee's Inspection Committee.
4. Summary of 4 years of credit-based training
The conference summarizing four years of credit-based training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was held on December 4th. The conference provided an opportunity for the University to evaluate its successes and limitations during the four years of credit-based training (2006-2010), thereby drawing lessons for further innovation in credit-based training in the coming years. On behalf of the leadership of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Associate Professor Pham Trong Quat – Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi – commended and highly appreciated the achievements the University has made during the four years of transitioning to credit-based training. The Vice Director emphasized that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the pioneering units in implementing credit-based training. Despite limited infrastructure, the University has built a solid foundation for training, drawing valuable lessons for the University in particular and Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general.

On this occasion, the school also presented certificates of commendation from the Principal to 13 groups and 27 individuals who had achieved outstanding results during the four years of transitioning to credit-based training.
5. The first five students received their bachelor's degrees ahead of schedule.
In the 2009-2010 academic year, the first five students of the Philosophy Department (QH - 2007 - X) - the first cohort to fully implement the credit-based training method - graduated one year earlier than usual.

The five students who graduated early are: Dong Thi Chinh, Ninh Thi Anh Hong, Nguyen Thi Phuong, Duong Thi Oanh Thanh, and Vu Thi Kim Loan from the Philosophy Department, all of whom achieved a "Good" academic rating. This event further affirms the advantages of the credit-based training method for students during their studies.
6. The University of Science and Humanities established its first company.
In October 2010, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University - signed a decision to establish the Science and Tourism Services Company, directly under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and simultaneously appointed Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Head of the Department of External Relations and International Cooperation - to concurrently hold the position of Director. The Science and Tourism Services Company is the first company established directly under the university, marking a positive step forward and innovation in the organizational structure of the University's operations.
7. Signed cooperation agreements with universities in Guangxi (China)
In 2010, the University had the honor of welcoming a high-level delegation from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China) to visit and witness the signing of cooperation agreements between six Chinese universities and eleven Vietnamese universities. Among them, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities signed two cooperation agreements with two universities in Guangxi: Guangxi University and Guangxi University for Nationalities.

Over the past year, the university has also continued to maintain and develop cooperative relationships with more than 100 international partners; and signed 11 additional cooperation agreements with universities in the UK, South Korea, Russia, China, and Hungary.
8. Commencement of the first cohort of the Master of Science and Technology Management program.
In 2010, the University held the opening ceremony for the first cohort of the Master's Program in Science and Technology Management - a joint training program between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Lund University (Sweden) - within the framework of Project 165 of the Central Organizing Committee.

The 38 students admitted to this course come from many provinces and cities, and belong to various ethnic groups across Vietnam. Notably, all are included in the planning for leadership and management positions at ministries, sectors, and localities. This affirms that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is not only a center for training high-quality human resources but also a cradle for cultivating many outstanding managers and leaders for various sectors, localities, and the country.
9. University entrance exam for Group A majors in 10 fields.
To meet the training requirements and aspirations of many candidates taking the A-block entrance exam nationwide, starting from the 2010 entrance exam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) is recruiting A-block candidates for 10 majors. These majors are: Psychology, Management Science, Sociology, Philosophy, Political Science, Information and Library Science, Archival Studies and Office Administration, International Studies, Tourism Studies, and Anthropology. Also in the 2010 entrance exam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities officially added a new major: Vietnamese Studies – a science that studies Vietnam in various specialized fields such as history, geography, language, literature, culture, economics, society, ecological environment, etc., or interdisciplinary regional studies.
10. Singing Contest for Faculty and Students to Celebrate 65 Years of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities
The Faculty and Student Singing Contest, celebrating the 65th anniversary of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, featured two vibrant and spectacular nights of competition at the Me Tri dormitory and an impressive "Welcome Song" performance on the university campus. This year's performances were meticulously prepared through the collective efforts of faculty, staff, and students, leaving many profound and unforgettable impressions.

The competition truly became an environment for interaction between generations of faculty and students, enriching cultural and spiritual life, and honoring the teacher-student relationship, the spirit of solidarity in work and study, and working together to build a more developed university.
