On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8, 1911 - March 8, 2011), ussh.edu.vn presents the full text of an article by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang - Chairman of the University's Trade Union - acknowledging and highly appreciating the role and significant contributions of female staff members in the University.
With 256 female staff members, including 175 female lecturers and 81 female administrative staff, accounting for 52.5% of the total staff at the university, women's affairs and the women's movement play a special role in fulfilling the political and professional tasks of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Over the years, with their efforts, solidarity, and creativity, the collective of female staff and lecturers at the university have excellently completed their assigned tasks and made many positive and important contributions to the overall success of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the University always highly appreciate the role and significant contributions of female staff members. In fact, women have continuously strived and made important contributions to the overall achievements of the university, undertaking almost all different areas of work such as teaching, teaching support, research, management, and collective activities. In every field of work, the female lecturers strive their best, demonstrating dedication and a strong sense of responsibility in their assigned tasks. The university's female lecturers have actively participated in teaching many subjects across various training programs, including full-time, part-time, second degree, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Many have had to arrange family affairs to teach part-time classes in distant provinces or participate in evening part-time classes. Although the transition from a semester-based to a credit-based system presented many new challenges, the lecturers actively and proactively sought to understand and quickly adapt to the requirements of this new training model. Many lecturers teach two to three times the standard number of hours. Their lectures have truly captivated students and have been highly appreciated by both students and colleagues. Furthermore, they have participated in and made practical contributions to various stages of the training process. The female staff members are very active in compiling course outlines, lectures, and textbooks according to the credit-based training method, participating in guiding students in writing specialized topics, essays, theses, dissertations, and practical training. Many young female staff members also undertake and excel in the roles of class homeroom teachers and academic advisors. It can be said that female staff members have made extremely important contributions to improving the quality of education at the university. To ensure the high quality of their lectures, the female staff members of the university have actively participated in scientific research. In the past five years, more than 150 women have led numerous scientific research projects at various levels: 70 projects at the university level, 72 projects at the Hanoi National University level, and 8 basic research projects. Many also participate in interdisciplinary research projects, collaborating with other agencies. The number of research papers and publications by female faculty members in domestic and international scientific journals is increasing in both quality and quantity. Along with scientific research, the female faculty members are also constantly improving their professional skills to better handle their assigned tasks. In the university's management, female faculty members actively participate and contribute to almost all departments and offices. They consistently adhere to schedules and work according to regulations, often working overtime, especially during enrollment periods, semester exams, and graduation exams. Demonstrating the admirable qualities of women, through perseverance, diligence, meticulousness, and a scientific approach to work, they have helped the university obtain timely and accurate information to make effective management decisions. In addition, female faculty members also hold several important positions in the university's management team, such as: Head of Department: 4/14; Deputy Head of Faculty: 7; Director of University-affiliated Center: 4/12; Deputy Director of University-affiliated Center: 3/7; Deputy Head of Department: 5/8; Head of Faculty-affiliated Department: 3; Deputy Head of Faculty-affiliated Department: 7. The women also actively participate in union activities: Party Committee members (2/15), Party branch secretaries (3/18), University Trade Union Executive Committee (9), and Department Trade Union Chairpersons (8/18). Along with successfully completing their work at the University, the female staff members also always take care of building their family life. Their diligence is shown in the love and care they give to their parents, husbands, and children, and in the way they skillfully arrange and manage their family affairs to arrive at school and classes on time, and teach in distant locations. In particular, in the matter of raising children, female staff members have put in a lot of effort, and in return, most of their children have achieved the title of good children and excellent students. The number of children achieving the title of excellent student increases every year. Many children pass entrance exams or are directly admitted to universities. In their families, many women strive while creating conditions for their husbands to complete their careers. Some women with particularly difficult family circumstances have continuously strived to raise their children and stabilize their family lives… In their lives, they always uphold the spirit of mutual support and compassion, helping friends, colleagues, and students in times of difficulty and hardship. It can be said that their achievements in their work at school partly reflect their competence in family life, and conversely, the stability and happiness in their families have empowered them to complete their work at school. In summary, after 5 years of the "Excellent at Schoolwork - Competent at Home" movement, the female staff of the School received a Certificate of Commendation from the Minister of Education and Training, one individual received a Certificate of Commendation from the Vietnam Education Trade Union, 4 collectives and 29 individuals achieved the title of "Excellent at Schoolwork - Competent at Home" at the Hanoi National University level, and many collectives and individuals achieved the title at the School level. In addition to achievements in the "Excellent at Schoolwork - Competent at Home" movement, female staff members have also received numerous awards and commendations at various levels: 567 female staff members received the title of Advanced Worker, 121 female staff members received the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level, 24 Emulation Fighters received the title at the Hanoi National University level, and 29 certificates of merit received at the National University level... These achievements are thanks to the effective guidance and support of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, the Hanoi National University Trade Union, and especially the direct leadership and profound concern of the Party Committee, the School's Board of Directors, the Party Branches, and the Heads of Departments, who have created all the conditions to support the development of the female staff. Through their practical actions, the female staff members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities always actively contribute to the movement to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh. Building upon fine traditions, the female staff of the School have been and continue to build the image and style of dynamic, creative, and strong-willed Vietnamese women in the new era. Their hands, minds, and enthusiasm are contributing daily to the growth of the School, for the cause of educating future generations and developing the country.
