(PLVN) - President Ho Chi Minh is not only the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people but also a leader and national liberation hero admired by people around the world with sincere hearts. Many places around the world have erected statues of President Ho Chi Minh about him - a world cultural celebrity.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors come to visit and commemorate President Ho Chi Minh at relic sites and monuments. According to statistics, Vietnam has about 700 relic sites, 30 monuments, squares and more than 100 memorial works of President Ho Chi Minh in localities across the country. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors come to visit and commemorate. The President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace alone has welcomed 73 million domestic visitors and 12 million international visitors since 1969.
There are 35 monuments and statues in the world commemorating President Ho Chi Minh, which have become places to organize cultural events for the Vietnamese community abroad. Places in countries where he lived, studied, worked or visited have had steles and bronze statues engraved in his memory. Many countries have named parks, schools, streets, squares, factories, production teams, clubs, and kindergartens after him. Some national libraries and international universities have also created Ho Chi Minh Spaces to display images and publications about his life and career... That has shown the Vietnamese people's deep respect and gratitude and the love and respect of people around the world for him; clearly demonstrates the UNESCO Resolution of 1987: “President Ho Chi Minh is an outstanding symbol, who devoted his whole life to the cause of national liberation of the Vietnamese people, contributing to the common struggle of peoples for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress; made important contributions in many aspects in the fields of culture, education and art”.
The monuments, the memorial places, the meaningful stops of President Ho Chi Minh abroad and the exciting activities at home and abroad that have been, are and will continue to take place show that “Ho Chi Minh is a man of legend and of all times, a character who still lives with us today. Ho Chi Minh is not a memory of the past. The eternity in Ho Chi Minh's thought makes him immortal...”.
In the world, we can mention the bronze statue of President Ho Chi Minh at Hoa Binh Park next to Avenue 26, one of the most beautiful parks in the center of the capital La Havana (Cuba) designed by architect Joel Diaz (Vice President of the Cuba - Vietnam Friendship Association), inaugurated in 2003, on the occasion of the 113th anniversary of his birth.
In Mexico, the statue of President Ho Chi Minh next to a simple rattan table and chairs, behind and above is the golden inscription “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” in Spanish with his signature, placed on January 16, 2009 in the “Freedom for the Peoples” Park, the capital of Mexico. The statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the city of Acapulco, in the state of Guerrero (Southern Mexico) is located opposite the statue of the Latin American national hero Simon Bolivar, on Miguel Aleman Avenue, the main and largest avenue in the city of Acapulco.
In Russia, Ho Chi Minh Square and Monument are located at the intersection of Dmitri Ulyanov Street (brother of revolutionary VILenin) and “Sixty Years of the October Revolution” Street, Moscow. This is the work of Vladimir Efimovich Tsigal, People's Artist, Academician of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR, author of more than 40 famous monumental groups. Ho Chi Minh Avenue and Monument in Zasviyazhski District, Ulyanovsk City, Lenin's hometown, is located on the banks of the Volga River, about 893km east of Moscow. Monument to President Ho Chi Minh at Borisenko Flower Garden, Vladivostok City (Russian Federation), inaugurated in 2019. The Ho Chi Minh Institute and his statue are located on the campus of the Faculty of Philology, St. Petersburg State University, inaugurated on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Uncle Ho's birthday (May 19, 2010).
In France, on May 19, 2005, the Montreuil city government erected a bust of President Ho Chi Minh in the “Ho Chi Minh Space” at the city’s History Museum (about 15km east of Paris), which preserves his relics during his time in France. This is where officials from Vietnamese representative agencies and overseas Vietnamese in France come to offer incense to commemorate Uncle Ho every May 19, and where delegations of domestic officials come to pay their respects to the spirit of the leader who sacrificed his whole life for the cause of national liberation.
In Singapore, the memorial stele and statue of President Ho Chi Minh at the Asian Civilisations Museum Park, on the banks of the Singapore River. The memorial stele was inaugurated in May 2008 to commemorate the 118th anniversary of his birth and the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Singapore. The statue of President Ho Chi Minh is the first monument in the program honoring “Friends to our shores” of Singapore, inaugurated in 2011…
In addition, the activities of renovating and constructing new statues and monuments of President Ho Chi Minh are still being carried out in many countries. Before 2009, there were 6 statues of Uncle Ho placed in several countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. After 10 years, there have been 29 new constructions, bringing the number of statues and monuments of Uncle Ho abroad to 35 in 22 countries.
