This is the first year that the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities has participated in this competition, and it has achieved remarkable results.
Nguyen Ngoc Linh, who won second prize in Literature, confided that she was very happy and surprised to learn that she had been selected as one of the two members representing her school in the national excellent student team. However, she also felt pressure and anxiety because this was the first year the school had participated in this competition. She also understood the responsibility she needed to have in the school's first participation.
As a standout student in the K1 History Specialized Class, Le Hoai Nam proved his talent by winning second prize in the recent national history competition for gifted students. Recalling the days of exam preparation, Hoai Nam expressed his gratitude to the teachers who always cared for and supported the team.
“Despite the disadvantages of a short preparation time, and the fact that I'm in 11th grade this year and have to compete with 12th-grade students, there were some difficulties and pressures. However, I always told myself that I needed to overcome myself to achieve my goals. And my teachers gave us the motivation to achieve the results we have today,” Hoa Nam shared.
Ms. Pham Hai Linh, a teacher from the Literature Department at the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, shared: "The school is very happy and proud of the results of our first campaign. I hope that students will work together to ignite the flame of passion and uphold the traditions of the Faculty of Literature - General Studies - Humanities."
Expressing pride in the two cohorts of students currently studying at the school, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu – the school's principal – shared his joy with the students in the teams excelling in Literature, History, and Geography.
The 2021-2022 academic year took place in a special context due to the complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic; however, the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities has gradually affirmed its position as the only specialized high school in social sciences and humanities in the country.
The school selected the most outstanding students to participate in the national excellent student competition team. These students have overcome their own limitations to prove themselves and continue writing glorious chapters in the school's history.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu informed: Currently, the specialized Literature class at the school has 103 students (both grades 10 and 11). With the outstanding achievements of the Literature class, this year the enrollment quota for the Literature class is 75, an increase of 15 compared to the previous academic year.
Emphasizing that the most crucial aspect for the school's students is training, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu stated: Not only are students trained by teachers in the classroom, but they also participate in many clubs such as the HSSH Media Club, the HLA Art Club – HSSH Land of Art, and the La'Cinéma Film Club… to further develop their writing and foreign language skills. Many club meetings feature presentations and discussions conducted entirely in English. In addition, the school regularly publishes a newsletter called "Humanities Writing," allowing students to hone their writing skills and publish their own articles.
Students at the school confidently participate in many international essay writing competitions, and many have won high awards, such as Tran Phuong Linh (Literature major), who received a scholarship to attend a summer camp in the Immerse Education Competition organized by the University of Cambridge (UK).
The GOSPEND team, consisting of three students, Tran Tram Anh, Le Hoai Nam, and Tran Hai Nam, participated in and won first prize in the "Youth Initiatives for Sustainable Consumption" competition organized by the Faculty of International Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities).
The High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities (affiliated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) is the first and only specialized high school in Vietnam that trains high school students specializing in social sciences and humanities, with three main tracks: Literature, History, and Geography, and a high-quality track.
