Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Kim Son - Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - shared some information related to students' ability to study beyond the credit training (CET).-This school year, 05 students of the QH-2007-X course have the opportunity to become the first students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to receive a graduation certificate after 3 years of study. How does the Associate Professor evaluate the initial successes of these students?- It must be said that graduating from university with good quality and in the fastest time is the desire of the majority of students. Previously, with the training system based on the year, students did not have the opportunity to do this. Credit training has opened up new opportunities for students, allowing them to shorten the training process, to a minimum of 3 years. I think the above students are those who have taken advantage of the opportunities in the training conditions allowed, knowing how to seize the opportunity combined with their own personal efforts, so they have succeeded. This also reflects that the above students are those who have adapted to the new training method. Besides, it also shows the new capabilities, new conditions, new opportunities that credit training brings to students. -However, many opinions say that besides their own efforts, these students have had special advantages in arranging the timetable of subjects in the QH-2007-X and QH-2006-X Philosophy courses compared to other majors. Could you please explain this?- I can confirm right away that in terms of the training program structure as well as the arrangement of the training program schedule of the majors, there is no separate priority for this major or another. If there is a priority, it is a common priority for all students participating in the training process. That is, every year, based on the number of students about to graduate as well as the number of students wishing to study ahead, the School can open a number of classes in the summer so that the majority of students can accelerate the time to accumulate subjects. But note that these classes are opened based on actual needs, based on the process of monitoring the speed of accumulating subjects of students in each course. -It is known that the ability to shorten study time is a great advantage of the credit-based training method, but this ability depends a lot on the reasonable scheduling of the training management department. In the future, what improvements will the School make on this issue to support students to study ahead?- The arrangement of the training schedule of the Training Department is based on the general principle of operating the training program in the best way, aiming at the goal of all learners, not for the benefit of any individual group. Therefore, I think that the accumulation of subjects quickly or not depends mainly on each individual, reflected in how much they care about studying, how well they understand the training program and how well they can arrange a study plan and complete that plan. Whoever grasps the principle and goes faster is successful. The school operates the training program in the best way according to the principle of benefiting the majority, which is the basis for students to be able to plan the best study plan for themselves. -To plan their studies in the best way possible, students must be accurately informed about their classes and receive timely advice during their studies. In the future, what will the school do to ensure that information is updated to students and to increase the effectiveness of the academic advisors’ advice?- Providing accurate information about the subjects to students is the goal of the TTTC and the School has been doing a good job of this task so that the TTTC can operate well. The current study counseling activities for students involve many departments: the Training Department, the Faculty's Academic Affairs Department and especially the team of study counselors. These counseling departments will advise students on many issues: good study methods, advice on majors, minors, choosing the right subjects at each time... In which, one of the important counseling is to warn students with slow subject accumulation speed, helping them speed up the accumulation speed to ensure their study plan. However, I still emphasize that in the TTTC, whether the study results are good or not depends mainly on the initiative of the individual, the counseling activities are only supportive. -The regulation on minimum English proficiency of 4.0 IELTS for standard training has been applied since the 2009 course, 5.5 IELTS for high-quality training or equivalent - is one of the conditions for graduation. Do you think this has the potential to reduce the early and on-time graduation rate of students in the following courses?- It is not necessarily so because studying at university is a long-term process of many years, not just a short time. For students who have the ability to handle their study plan well, they will also easily overcome the foreign language proficiency requirement. -Can you give a prediction about the success of the next batch of students in their studies?- The most important goal of the school is the quality of training. It would be ideal if students could both study with good quality, meet the requirements of work upon graduation, and complete their studies in the shortest time. The school always supports your good study plans. Based on the current monitoring of the speed of accumulating subjects, the following courses, that is, from the QH-2008-X course, promise to have more students who can graduate early in many other faculties, not just the Faculty of Philosophy like this year. However, I also share the thought that students should not only study for the purpose of studying early, studying ahead, that is, studying subjects with average results enough to cope with the need to graduate early, but forget the top goal of studying with quality. Students who graduate early but only have average study results are not the ones who should be encouraged. Besides, there are also many students who are in the category of having a below average speed of accumulating subjects, so be careful and try harder. Because the DTTC brings many good opportunities for students who are proactive and positive in learning, but it will also be a "trap" for students who have the wrong perception and orientation about their studies.
