The traditional Bunpimay New Year of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in 2026 will take place from April 14th to 16th. Despite celebrating the New Year far from their homeland, Lao students studying in Vietnam will still be able to immerse themselves in the vibrant and heartwarming celebrations, reflecting the rich cultural traditions and warm friendship.

On April 10, 2026, the Faculty of Linguistics and Vietnamese Studies held a ceremony to celebrate the Lao New Year (Bunpimay) 2026. Attending the ceremony were representatives from the University's leadership, the Department of Training and Student Affairs, faculty members of the department, and nearly 20 Lao students, along with other international students studying at the Faculty.

At the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Tuyet Mai - Deputy Head of the Training and Student Affairs Department - represented the school in presenting meaningful gifts to the Lao students and extended best wishes for the New Year to the students and their families. The school representative also commended the Lao students for their efforts in studying and training.

Dr. Bui Duy Duong - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Linguistics and Vietnamese Studies - wished the Lao students a very happy and warm Bunpimay traditional New Year celebration, and wished them continued academic success and even greater achievements in life.

The Lao New Year 2026 celebration took place in a joyful and warm atmosphere. Lao students participating in the exchange program performed cultural shows, including Lam Vong dances and traditional songs. Notably, international students from many countries also performed various artistic acts to celebrate the Lao New Year.

During the exchange, the Lao students performed many sacred traditional rituals during the New Year celebration, such as tying threads around wrists to pray for peace and the water-splashing ceremony to wash away bad luck and bring happiness. This was a very joyful and meaningful exchange, giving the students an opportunity to learn more about the traditional cultural activities of the Bunpimay New Year.

The activities celebrating the Lao New Year (Bunpimay) once again affirm the University's and Faculty's concern for international students studying at the University. These cultural activities helped international students alleviate homesickness, feel a sense of sharing and warmth as if they were in their own homeland. This is not only an opportunity for young Lao people to spread and promote the beauty of their Lao culture to Vietnamese and international friends, but also a clear testament to the continued cultivation and strengthening of the special and loyal friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
