Among the 12 Ho Chi Minh Prizes and 20 State Prizes for science and technology awarded this time, the Faculty of History received two: one Ho Chi Minh Prize for the collection of works on Vietnamese culture by the late Professor Tran Quoc Vuong, and one State Prize for the work "Thang Long - Hanoi in the 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries" by Associate Professor Nguyen Thua Hy. This is the 5th Ho Chi Minh Prize and the 4th State Prize that the faculty members of the Faculty of History have been honored to receive from the State.

On November 30, 2011, at the Ho Chi Minh City Writers' Association hall, the Standing Committee of the City Writers' Association, the Culture and Arts Publishing House, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Ca Lê family held a cordial gathering to introduce the diary of Lê Anh Xuân. Attendees included representatives from the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, leaders and staff of the Ben Tre Museum (where the original copy of the diary is kept), leaders and reporters from various newspapers and television stations, and a number of writers and friends who had worked and fought alongside Lê Anh Xuân.

This article by Associate Professor Vuong Dinh Quyen (Former Head of the Department of Archives and History, Chairman of the Faculty's Scientific and Training Council 1996-2000) is written on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Management (1996-2011).

Fifty-five years is short in the vast expanse of a nation's history, but it is not short in the 66-year journey of the new Vietnam. During those 55 years, generations of faculty and students of the History Department of Hanoi University (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) have continuously studied, trained, and strived to become one of the leading centers for historical education and research in Vietnam, aiming for deep integration and cooperation with the international community.

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literature, and the 15th anniversary of the Faculty of Linguistics and the Faculty of Literature, USSH would like to introduce the profiles of some professors in the Linguistics field who have participated in leadership roles at the unit.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Con (Head of the Department of Linguistics - University of Social Sciences and Humanities) reviews the 55-year journey of the Linguistics Department at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Faculty of Literature and the 15th anniversary of the Faculty of Linguistics.

Autumn of 1956,Department of LiteratureHanoi University – a faculty specializing in basic sciences of a newly established university under the Democratic Republic of Vietnam – was born.

On September 27, 2011, the Faculty of Political Science will be officially established at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). On this occasion, we met with the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science, Professor Phung Huu Phu, former Central Committee member of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Propaganda Department, and Standing Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, to learn more about this new and promising field of study.

I remember almost fifty years ago, when I was in third grade in Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province, I once heard my eldest brother – a young teacher who had left the lowlands to teach secondary school literature there – while tearing off a page from a block calendar (the only type of calendar commonly available at that time, printed on thin, poor-quality paper) to roll cigarettes, humming a poem that included these lines:

And so, a heart that had dedicated its life to science, to training and inspiring its students, has ceased to beat. The man who carried that heart – Professor Nguyen Tai Can – has departed this world, leaving a void in academia; and in our hearts, amidst the sorrow and regret of his passing, there is a profound sense of separation. The crane has flown away.soaring high into the sky...
