Since 2006, more than 1,700 large companies and multinational corporations worldwide (such as Samsung, LG, POSCO, DOOSAN, Bank of America, etc.) have used the OPIc international language certificate as a criterion for recruitment, rewards, and promotions for over 1.2 million of their employees.
In 2017, several companies belonging to the Samsung Group in Vietnam conducted Korean communication skills training for their employees, oriented towards the OPIc exam. After the course, these trainees took the international OPIc Korean language proficiency test.
What kind of exam is OPIc?
OPIc International is a computer-based speaking proficiency test administered by the Council on Foreign Language Teaching in the United States.
The OPIc speaking test assesses six languages (English, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish). The OPIc test doesn't simply evaluate vocabulary and grammar; it also assesses a candidate's ability to express themselves in specific communication situations. Therefore, the test accurately assesses a candidate's speaking ability.
The OPIc exam lasts approximately 60 minutes, consists of 15 questions, and is assessed at four levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced, and super advanced).
The exam consists of two parts: the exam orientation section and the actual exam.
The exam orientation session lasts approximately 20 minutes and consists of four parts: a survey, a self-assessment, a general introduction to the exam, and sample exam questions.
The exam, which lasts approximately 40 minutes, consists of three parts: an introduction, a difficulty adjustment section, and questions specifically tailored to each test-taker.
Where in Vietnam is the OPIc international certification exam held?
To date, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) is the first institution in Vietnam to organize the OPIc exam (authorized by the American Council on Foreign Language Teaching (ACTFL)).
Recently, the school organized two OPIc Korean language exams for Korean language instructors in Hanoi, interpreters, and staff of Samsung Vietnam. The school also collaborated with Multicampus, a subsidiary of Samsung Group, to organize an OPIc Korean language teaching skills training course, which was highly appreciated by the teachers.
The next OPIc English and Korean language proficiency certificate exams are scheduled to be held on September 30, 2017.
