Peer Review of the Bachelor of Sociology Program

On December 26 and 27, 2016, the peer quality assessment team established by the President of VNU conducted a peer quality assessment of the undergraduate standard training program in Sociology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The delegation consisted of three members led by Dr. Hoang Thi Xuan Hoa. Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa, Vice Principal, in charge of the school's quality assurance activities, directed the coordination work with the inspection and evaluation team. The school's Training Quality Assurance Center and all functional departments actively participated in the evaluation process. The Board of Directors, lecturers, staff and students of the Faculty of Sociology participated fully and actively, ensuring the progress and effectiveness of the work program.

Photo 3: Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Van Tung, Head of the Faculty of Sociology, reported an overview of the Faculty, the self-assessment process and summarized the results of the Self-assessment of the undergraduate training program in Sociology.

According to the working program, the Evaluation Team interviewed 9 groups of subjects including: - School Board of Directors, leaders of functional departments

- Interview with Faculty Leader

- Interview with the Heads of Departments of the Faculty

- Interview with officers and employees of service units

- Interview all permanent lecturers of the Sociology training program

- Interview alumni of the program, including groups of alumni who are working at agencies/organizations outside the school, continuing their graduate/doctoral studies, the number of alumni who are currently lecturers, staff of the School and Faculty is not more than 30% of the number of attendees.

- Interview students studying in the program from year 1 to year 4

- Interview with employers

- Interview with the training program report writing team

At the same time, the Delegation conducted research to assess evidence and inspect facilities serving training work.

The preliminary results of 11 assessment criteria will be reported and will continue to be collected and assessed in more detail to draw final conclusions. The delegation highly appreciated the undergraduate training program in Sociology, and at the same time made many recommendations to overcome the limitations and shortcomings that have not received due attention.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa, former Head of the Faculty of Sociology, on behalf of the Faculty, thanked the Evaluation Team for their impartial, objective and professional work. The Faculty will acknowledge the recommendations of the Team, and will continue to improve and supplement evidence and appropriate documents for the Team to synthesize conclusions. The Faculty has gained a lot of experience and each Faculty staff member has received positive recognition from the Self-Assessment and Peer-to-Peer Quality Assessment processes, and will continue to improve and promote further to improve the quality of training.

On behalf of the School, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa discussed and shared her opinions on the purpose, significance and achievements of the training quality assessment work of the Faculty of Sociology in particular and the School in general. There are many issues arising in the process of training management, training development and organization... that need to be recognized and overcome objectively and systematically.

The undergraduate training program in Sociology was evaluated by peer quality assessment this time, contributing to promoting quality assessment activities, ensuring the training quality of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, both in breadth and depth.
