Peer Review of the Quality of the Bachelor of Sociology Program

On December 26th and 27th, 2016, the peer review team, established by a decision of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, conducted a peer review of the undergraduate Sociology program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The delegation consisted of three members, led by Dr. Hoang Thi Xuan Hoa. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa, Vice Rector in charge of quality assurance activities of the University, directed the coordination with the inspection and evaluation team. The University's Center for Quality Assurance in Education and all functional departments actively participated in the evaluation process. The entire leadership team, faculty, staff, and students of the Faculty of Sociology attended fully and actively, ensuring the progress and effectiveness of the work program.

According to the work program, the evaluation team conducted interviews with 9 groups of subjects, including: - The school's Board of Directors and leaders of functional departments.

- Interview with the Head of Department

- Interviewing the Heads of Departments in the Faculty

- Interviewing officers and staff of service units

- Interviewing all full-time faculty members of the Sociology program.

- Interviews with alumni of the program, including groups of alumni working at agencies/organizations outside the university, pursuing postgraduate/doctoral studies, with the number of alumni currently working as lecturers, staff members of the University and Faculty not exceeding 30% of the participants.

- Interviewing students currently enrolled in the program from their first to fourth year.

- Interviewing recruiters

- Interviews with the team responsible for writing the training program report.

Simultaneously, the delegation conducted research to assess evidence and inspect facilities serving the training program.

The preliminary results of the 11 evaluation criteria will be reported and will continue to be compiled and evaluated in more detail to reach a final conclusion. The delegation highly appreciated the undergraduate program in Sociology, while also making several recommendations to address limitations and shortcomings that have not received adequate attention.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa, former Head of the Department of Sociology, on behalf of the entire Department, expressed gratitude for the fair, objective, and professional work of the evaluation team. The Department will take note of the team's recommendations and will continue to refine and supplement the evidence and relevant documents for the team to synthesize and conclude. The Department has gained much experience, and each staff member has received positive feedback from the Self-Assessment and Peer Quality Assessment process, and will continue to improve and further develop these efforts to enhance the quality of education.

On behalf of the University, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa shared her views on the purpose, significance, and achievements of the quality accreditation of the Faculty of Sociology in particular and the University in general. Many issues have arisen in the process of managing, developing, and organizing training... requiring objective and systematic recognition and remediation.

This peer review of the Bachelor of Sociology program contributes to strengthening quality assurance activities and ensuring the quality of training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi National University of Education, both in breadth and depth.
