The research, compilation, and publication of the book series.Ethnic groups in VietnamThis project spanned six years, from 2012 to 2018. The purpose of this book series was to meet societal needs and to make a significant contribution to summarizing the research on ethnic groups in Vietnam initiated by the Institute of Ethnology (2012-2015), highlighting the achievements and limitations in ethnic research since the publication of the previous edition.List of ethnic groups in Vietnamin 1979; simultaneously determining the direction and content of future research. The main research methods for producing the book series.Ethnic groups in VietnamThis involves ethnographic fieldwork and desk study.

In this book series, the Kinh (Viet) ethnic group is introduced for the first time in a general way, so it is mentioned relatively comprehensively, not following a general compilation framework. For other ethnic groups, the compilation includes three basic contents: (1) Overview of the research situation; (2) Presentation and analysis of socio-economic development and changes from 1986 to the present; (3) Some issues raised in the research and development of that ethnic group. To help readers easily grasp the general issues of the ethnic groups of Vietnam from 1986 to the present, in addition to the "Preface" of each volume or book, Volume 1 includes the article "General overview of ethnic group research and some issues concerning ethnic groups in Vietnam from 1986 to the present" (67 pages); And in Volume 2 of Part 4 there is an article (replacing the Conclusion of the book) "On the issue of ethnic groups and the national community in Vietnam from 1986 to the present" (255 pages), written by the Editor-in-Chief.

In addition, there were 61 photographers, including 35 from outside the Institute of Ethnology; and 2 authors who created the map showing the distribution of ethnic groups by language family. The research, compilation, and publication of this book series...Ethnic groups in VietnamIt is also combined with training, by linking this task with master's and doctoral training; inheriting the research results of several theses and dissertations. The financial source for conducting research and compiling the work comes from the funding of basic-level research projects from 2013-2015, scientific activity funds, and funds for organizing the Ethnology Conference, mainly from 2012-2015 of the Institute of Ethnology. For publication, the National Political Publishing House developed a project for the book series, which is on the list of state-commissioned publications, and 32 staff members participated in editing the content.

book setEthnic groups in VietnamThis book not only marks a significant scientific event for the Institute of Ethnology, but also for the field of Ethnology/Anthropology in Vietnam. It is a fundamental research-oriented book series serving a wide range of readers. It can be said that this series possesses three main values: informational value, comprehensive value, and summarizing value. However, due to resource constraints, the series also has certain limitations: some ethnic groups were studied through fieldwork, while others were only studied through documentation; and within the document-based compilations, some ethnic groups have been extensively studied while others have been studied less. The authors' compilation capabilities are also uneven. Therefore, the quality of compilation varies for each ethnic group.

As the scientific organizer and chief editor of the book series, Associate Professor Dr. Vuong Xuan Tinh will present the research, compilation, and publication process of this book series so that colleagues and readers can understand the implementation process; the difficulties and challenges overcome; the contributions of the book series; and the limitations due to the conditions and context of implementation, so that subsequent works can supplement and surpass it.
