Film and Television Scriptwriting Skills Class

The Department of Art Studies (Faculty of Literature – University of Social Sciences and Humanities) is recruiting students for a short-term training course in film and television scriptwriting skills, commencing in October 2018.

This course aims to train students in fundamental and practical skills to enter the field of film and television screenwriting, meeting the increasingly high and expanding broadcasting demands of television channels today. After 10 courses, many outstanding students have found their calling in screenwriting and have produced works accepted by many reputable film studios and companies, such as Vietnam Television and Vietnam Animation Film Studio. By attending the short-term Film and Television Screenwriting Skills course, you will expand your network and, more importantly, gain more direction and career options in the current context.

1. Target audience:Students who have graduated or are currently studying at universities/colleges/vocational schools/high schools/middle schools.

2. Lecturers

  • Experienced and highly specialized lecturers in film theory and criticism from the Department of Art Studies - Faculty of Literature include: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Thach, Lecturer Tran Hinh, Dr. Hoang Cam Giang, M.Sc. Le Tuan...
  • Reputable directors and screenwriters from both Vietnam and abroad include: director Dang Nhat Minh, screenwriter Trinh Thanh Nha, screenwriter Trinh Dan Phuong, screenwriter Pham Thanh Ha, screenwriter Ha Thu Ha, and others…

3. Objectives:By the end of the course, students will have grasped the following basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills:

  • An introduction to film theory, the basic characteristics of film and television.
  • Screenwriting skills for films and television series
  • Skills in writing scripts for sitcoms, documentaries, and animated films.
  • Gain practical knowledge about film production processes and systems (including factory tours and field trips); learn skills in using cameras and setting up film sets through group short film projects.

The instructors will contact and introduce good, highly-rated scripts to film producers for adaptation into television.

4. Study time:6 PM - 8:30 PM: 3 sessions/week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

5. Learning conditions:Benefiting from modern facilities and equipment from the Ford Foundation-funded film training project, students will study in standard classrooms with 30-40 students per class, watch films, and use learning materials in the film project's library and screening room with standard sound, screen, and lighting systems.

6. Registration for courses:Applications will be accepted from August 26, 2018 to September 30, 2018 at the Film Club office – 4th floor, Building I, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

7. The registration documents include:

  • Registration form (obtain and fill out the form at the registration location).
  • A copy of your identity card or a copy of your student ID/university diploma (or college, vocational school/high school/junior high school diploma)
  • Two 3 x 4 cm photos (taken within the last 3 months)

Tuition: 3,200,000 VND (including internship and materials costs); 10% tuition fee reduction for students at the university.

Duration: 20 sessions
