4. University and master's degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions:Candidates holding a bachelor's or master's degree from a foreign educational institution must have a recognition certificate from the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training at the time of online registration.
5. Standard training duration:
- For doctoral training: 3 years for those with a master's degree; 4 years for those without a master's degree.
- For master's degree programs: 2 years.
6. Foreign language requirements:
6.1. For doctoral candidates:
Applicants must possess one of the following diplomas or certificates demonstrating foreign language proficiency that meets the foreign language output standards of the training program approved by Hanoi National University:
- Possess a foreign language certificate according to the Reference Table.Appendix 6by an internationally and nationally recognized testing organization within 24 months from the date of the certification exam to the date of application;
- A bachelor's or master's degree awarded by a foreign educational institution for a full-time program abroad, in a language that meets the language requirements and learning outcomes of the program. Degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions must undergo recognition procedures in accordance with current regulations.
- Possess a university degree in a foreign language or foreign language pedagogy that meets the foreign language learning outcomes required by the training program, issued by Vietnamese educational institutions.
- In the above cases, if English is not the language of instruction, applicants must be able to communicate in English in a professional manner, understanding others in English and comprehending others presenting professional issues in English. The admissions committee will establish a subcommittee to assess the professional English communication skills of candidates in this category.
6.2. For candidates taking the master's entrance exam:
Candidates falling into one of the following categories are exempt from the Foreign Language exam:
- Possess a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree obtained from full-time study abroad, with the degree recognized by the competent authority in accordance with current regulations;
- Possess a university degree from an advanced program under the Ministry of Education and Training's plan for advanced training programs at some Vietnamese universities, or a high-quality engineering degree (PFIEV) recognized by the Engineering Degree Accreditation Committee (CTI, France), with a foreign partner co-issuing the degree, or a university degree from an internationally standardized training program, a talent training program, or a high-quality training program of Vietnam National University, Hanoi;
- Holds a university degree in a foreign language.
- Possess a foreign language proficiency certificate equivalent to the levels of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework used in Vietnam: level 3 for standard VNU master's programs, level 4 for international joint master's programs with degrees awarded by VNU, and level 5 for international standard master's programs.seeAppendix 3)The certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of the foreign language proficiency test to the date of registration for the master's entrance exam and is issued by an institution recognized by Vietnam National University, Hanoi.(seeAppendix 4).
6.3. Note:
- Foreign language certificates will be sent by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to the issuing institutions for verification of their authenticity. Candidates are responsible, in accordance with the postgraduate admission regulations of Hanoi National University, for the authenticity of the submitted certificates.
- Certificates issued by Hanoi University of Education, Thai Nguyen University, and Can Tho University: Applicable to certificates issued after May 15, 2019, and following the 6-level foreign language certificate format of the Ministry of Education and Training.
7. Eligible candidates and priority policies (applicable to master's degree entrance examinations):
7.1. Priority groups:
- Individuals with at least two years of continuous work experience (as of the application deadline) in localities designated as Zone 1 (according to the current national high school entrance exam zone division table of the Ministry of Education and Training). In this case, candidates must have a decision on acceptance of employment, recruitment decision, or assignment/secondment from a competent agency or organization;
- Ethnic minority individuals who have had permanent residence registration for 2 years or more (as of the deadline for submitting application forms) in localities designated as Zone 1;
- War invalids and those receiving benefits similar to war invalids;
- Child of a fallen soldier;
- Heroes of the armed forces, labor heroes;
- Children of resistance fighters who were exposed to chemical toxins, and who are recognized by the provincial People's Committee as having deformities, disabilities, or reduced self-reliance in daily life and studies as a result of chemical toxins.
7.2. Priority Level:
- Candidates belonging to priority groups (including those belonging to multiple priority groups) will have 10 points added to their English exam score (on a 100-point scale) if they are not exempt from the English exam, and 1 point added to their basic subject score or 15 points added to their aptitude test score.
- The determination of priority status must be made at the time of exam registration.
8. Schedule for supplementary knowledge courses:
Candidates should contact the Training Department (Admissions Office) of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, and the offices of the respective Faculties/Departments for details on the supplementary knowledge course plan. The university continuously organizes supplementary university knowledge courses to prepare candidates for the master's entrance exams, corresponding to the exam periods throughout the year. Candidates from related/different fields must have a supplementary university knowledge certificate in the corresponding specializations to be eligible to take the exam.
9. Registration and application submission period:
9.1. For candidates applying for a master's degree:
In 2020, the application process continued to be conducted through the VNU's postgraduate admissions software.
Candidate's task:
- Access the VNU's postgraduate admissions software and register online according to the instructions. Candidates who have registered accounts in previous admission periods and have not yet enrolled at any unit within VNU can use their existing accounts to register for the 2020 entrance exam. Candidates must commit to and be responsible for the accuracy of the information provided.
- Registration period:From 8:00 AM on July 2, 2020 to 5:00 PM on October 2, 2020.

- Pay the prescribed admission fee into the account of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, or pay directly in cash at the University.(Candidates are required to wait for confirmation from the Admissions Committee before making the transfer.).
