The Film Project organized a screening of a film by a student from Course 5: "Trapped". Time6:00 PM – Friday, May 14, 2010LocationCinematheque, 22A Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi. During this film screening, the audience will have the opportunity to interact with the film crew, director Le Thanh Son, musician Tran Quang Minh, and others. Project participants will share their experiences in filmmaking and their aspirations for career development after graduating from the project. As a regular activity after the completion of a screenwriting and filmmaking course at the Cinema Project, the film screening serves as a way to showcase the achievements of the participants and share their best debut works with interested audiences. Previously, many works by participants from previous courses have received positive reviews and feedback from audiences and professionals. The Film Project at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, funded by the Ford Foundation and launched in early 2006, offers a ten-month, full-time, free course each year to develop young writing talents in screenwriting, film and television criticism in Vietnam. The project aims to train students in screenwriting and film and television criticism. The curriculum includes five compulsory subjects: World Film History, Film Art (Film Styles), Vietnamese Film History, and a "News Briefs" practice session. In addition to the five general subjects, students are divided into two groups, specializing in specific areas with numerous practical writing assignments. During these two specialized sessions, students learn professional writing skills, both theoretically and practically, under the guidance of experienced instructors. Courses are taught by successful Vietnamese film directors and screenwriters, with participation from visiting lecturers from South Korea, the United States, and Europe. In addition, the course also organizes meetings and talks with filmmakers from both Vietnam and abroad, such as Dang Nhat Minh, Pham Nhue Giang, Bui Thac Chuyen, Ngo Quang Hai, Ngo Thi Bich Hanh, Professor David James from the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, USA), and the renowned Korean filmmaker, Mr. Park Kwangsu, Director of the Asian Film Market in Pusan... To graduate, students must complete a graduation thesis and undergo rigorous peer review by experts outside the university. Through this course, many students have had the opportunity to win postgraduate scholarships in art and film at foreign universities. The Film Project will serve as a model for the establishment of a bachelor's degree program in film at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi).
